The National Weather Service has issued a winter warning for the Orlando area, with wind chills predicted to reach as low as 28 degrees early in the morning. This unusual weather pattern means that visitors will need to rethink their typical Florida vacation wardrobe and prepare for a much colder day than expected.

The chilly temperatures will be especially noticeable in open areas of the parks, such as the walkways at EPCOT and Animal Kingdom, where the wind can cut through even the warmest layers.

For guests planning to rope drop or explore outdoor attractions early, dressing in multiple layers will be crucial. It’s a good idea to wear thermal clothing underneath a heavier jacket, and accessories like hats, gloves, and scarves will make all the difference in staying comfortable.

Three animatronic pirates, reminiscent of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean, peer out from a stone jail cell. One dangles a key tied to a rope to entice a dog holding keys in its mouth. The dimly lit scene glows under an old lantern's light, capturing a moment of playful mischief.

Water-based experiences will remain closed for the day, and guests should anticipate spending more time indoors to escape the brisk air.

While the afternoon should see a slight warm-up into the mid-50s, the wind will continue to make it feel much cooler. Visitors may want to plan their park itinerary with indoor attractions in mind, such as Pirates of the Caribbean or Mickey’s PhilharMagic, which offer a break from the cold without missing out on the fun.

Dining indoors or grabbing a hot chocolate from a quick-service location can also provide a much-needed warm-up throughout the day.

A cold front like this isn’t something that happens often in Florida, so it’s important for guests to take a few extra precautions to stay comfortable. Carrying hand warmers and dressing in layers that can be adjusted throughout the day will help combat the fluctuating temperatures. For those staying late in the parks, having a warm jacket ready for the evening drop back into the 40s will prevent an early departure due to the cold.

One unexpected benefit of the cooler weather is the possibility of lighter crowds. Many visitors may choose to delay their park plans or spend more time at their resort, meaning lower wait times for those willing to brave the chilly conditions. This can be a great time to check off must-do rides without the usual long lines.

Even though it might not be the typical Florida weather most guests expect, with a little planning, the parks can still be just as magical. Staying warm and taking breaks when needed will make for a memorable day, even if it’s not under the usual sunny skies.
