Disneyland Announces Plans To Build a NEW 50-Foot Sleeping Beauty Castle

Since Disneyland opened in 1955, Sleeping Beauty Castle has been the most iconic sight in the park. Standing at just 77 feet tall, it may not be the largest Disney castle, but it holds an unmatched history, serving as the centerpiece of Walt Disney’s original theme park.

Inspired by Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, it has been the backdrop for countless memories, from magical proposals to dazzling nighttime spectaculars. It’s more than just a structure—it’s a symbol of everything that makes Disneyland special.

The castle has undergone plenty of changes over the years, whether it be seasonal overlays during the holidays or anniversary-themed enhancements. For Disneyland’s 50th anniversary in 2005, it was given golden embellishments, and for the 60th, it sparkled with diamond-like decorations.

In 2008, the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough was redesigned with new storytelling elements, bringing the 1959 animated classic to life inside its walls. Despite all these updates, the castle has remained a familiar and beloved landmark for guests of all ages.

With Disneyland’s 70th anniversary set to begin on May 16, 2025, the resort has announced something completely new: a 50-foot castle-inspired sculpture will be installed in the esplanade between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Unlike past anniversaries, which focused on decorations directly on the castle, this installation will be a separate artistic tribute to the park’s history. Featuring colorful glass panels and golden charms representing Disneyland’s original lands, the structure will be a fresh take on Sleeping Beauty Castle, offering guests a new way to celebrate the resort’s legacy.

The 70th-anniversary celebration is shaping up to be one of Disneyland’s biggest yet. Alongside the debut of the sculpture, Paint the Night is making its long-awaited return, bringing back its electrifying parade of Disney and Pixar characters glowing with vibrant LED lights.

Over at Disney California Adventure, World of Color – Happiness! will introduce an entirely new nighttime spectacular hosted by Joy from Inside Out, blending music, water effects, and colorful projections into an unforgettable show.

Themed decorations will be found throughout the resort, with Main Street, U.S.A. featuring bright banners, floral displays, and a special Mickey and Minnie installation in Town Square. Sleeping Beauty Castle itself will be adorned with an elegant medallion, commemorating 70 years of magic.

At Disney California Adventure, Carthay Circle Restaurant will transform in the evenings with a colorful light display set to Celebrate Happy, the anniversary’s theme song. Even Downtown Disney and the Disneyland hotels will join in on the festivities, ensuring the celebration is felt across the entire resort.

With so many new experiences and nostalgic favorites returning, Disneyland’s 70th anniversary will be a milestone event for fans both old and new. Whether it’s seeing the castle-inspired sculpture for the first time, dancing along to Paint the Night, or simply soaking in the festive atmosphere, this celebration is set to be one for the history books. Disneyland is once again proving why it’s The Happiest Place on Earth—and the magic is only just beginning.
