Disneyland Confirmed a Free Halloween Fan Favorite Is Coming Back and Dates Are Set

Disneyland Resort's Halloween season is one of the most beloved and most expensive times to visit the resort, and those two things are not unrelated. Halloween Time transforms the parks into something genuinely special from August 21 through October 31, and the full breadth of what Disney offers during that period comes with costs that stack up quickly for families building a fall Disneyland trip.

Oogie Boogie Bash is the crown jewel of the Halloween season at the Disneyland Resort, and it earns that reputation consistently. The after-hours party at Disney California Adventure runs on 33 select dates this year, from August 18 through October 31, with party hours from 6 to 11 p.m. and early entry available from 3 p.m. New for 2026 is Madame Leota's Swinging Wake. This Haunted Mansion-themed street party will be extremely popular, alongside returning favorites like Villains Grove, the Headless Horseman, and trick-or-treating throughout the park. Tickets go on sale June 18 for the general public, with Magic Key Holder pre-sale access on June 16 and 17. Dates sell out. October dates go faster than September. Halloween night itself, October 31, goes fastest of all.

Oogie Boogie Bash is worth every penny. It is also a separately ticketed event that not every guest visiting during Halloween Time will be able to attend.

Which is exactly why this announcement matters.

Movie Nights Are Back

Movie Nights at the Downtown Disney District presented by Honda are returning for Halloween Time 2026. The free outdoor film screenings will take place every Wednesday throughout September and October on the Downtown Disney LIVE Stage lawn at the west end of the district near the main entrance. No park ticket required. No event ticket required. No additional cost of any kind.

The confirmed dates are September 9, 16, 23, and 30, and October 7, 14, 21, and 28. Eight Wednesday evenings of Halloween movies under the stars at the Disneyland Resort span the peak of the fall season.

The event returned by popular demand after its 2025 debut, which is the most useful piece of context for understanding what this offering actually delivers. A free outdoor screening does not return by popular demand unless the experience it provides is genuinely good. Last year's lineup featured Hocus Pocus, Hocus Pocus 2, Frankenweenie, and Haunted Mansion, a selection that spanned classic Halloween viewing for audiences of all ages and interests. The 2026 film lineup has not been announced yet and will be updated once Disney releases the official schedule.

Why This Is the Halloween Offering Worth Knowing About

The comparison that matters here is not between Movie Nights and a regular park visit. It is between Movie Nights and the rest of what Disney offers during the Halloween season at the Disneyland Resort.

Oogie Boogie Bash requires a separate ticket on top of park admission and sells out. Halloween Time in the parks requires park admission. The Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party requires an additional reservation purchase. Every premium Halloween offering at the Disneyland Resort comes with a cost that compounds on the already significant investment of a Disneyland vacation.

Movie Nights at Downtown Disney require nothing. No ticket. No reservation. No additional planning beyond showing up at the west end of Downtown Disney on a Wednesday evening and finding a spot on the LIVE Stage lawn.

For families visiting the Disneyland Resort during the fall but whose Halloween-season budget is already stretched by park tickets, hotel costs, and dining, eight free Wednesday evenings of Halloween movie screenings is the offering that makes the season feel complete without adding to the cost.

For guests attending Oogie Boogie Bash on a different night and wanting to extend the Halloween atmosphere into a Wednesday evening during the same trip, Movie Nights offers a free, genuinely enjoyable way to do just that.

The Dates and What to Expect at Disneyland
