One of Disneyland's most famous attractions is about to look very different.
Haunted Mansion is closing this weekend so Disney can begin installing its popular Haunted Mansion Holiday experience. While many guests look forward to the transformation each year, it also means the attraction's original version is about to disappear for several months.
Disneyland visitors who want to experience the classic attraction should make plans before Friday, August 7, which is the final operating day before the closure begins.
A Short Closure Leads to a Big Transformation
Starting August 8, Haunted Mansion will temporarily close while Disney crews work behind the scenes preparing the attraction for its next chapter.
The attraction is expected to reopen on August 21 with Haunted Mansion Holiday, inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993).
Rather than making a few small updates, Disney transforms much of the attraction. From the mansion's exterior to several of its most recognizable scenes, guests will find an experience that feels noticeably different from the original.
Jack Skellington becomes the focus of the attraction, while Halloween Town decorations and festive surprises appear throughout the ride.
Why This Deadline Matters
Unlike many attraction refurbishments, this isn't simply about maintenance.
Once Haunted Mansion Holiday opens, the original version won't return for the rest of the year. The holiday-themed attraction remains in operation throughout Disneyland's Halloween celebration and continues through the resort's holiday festivities before eventually switching back in early 2027.
That makes August 7 the final opportunity for guests to hear the familiar Ghost Host narration, see the classic scenes, and experience the attraction in its traditional form.

Both versions of Haunted Mansion have passionate fans.
Some visitors love the timeless ghost story that has entertained generations of Disneyland guests, while others return every year specifically to see Jack Skellington's takeover.
Whichever version you prefer, knowing the schedule can help you avoid disappointment.
