The clock is officially ticking for Disneyland fans who prefer Haunted Mansion without its famous seasonal guests.
Disneyland Park has set August 8, 2026, as the beginning of Haunted Mansion’s temporary closure, which means the classic attraction will welcome its final guests of the summer on Friday, August 7.
Disney will then have less than two weeks to transform the mansion before reopening it August 21.
When that happens, however, the original experience won’t return with it.
Haunted Mansion Holiday will take its place, bringing The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) into the Disneyland classic. Even more importantly for fans of the regular version, the seasonal transformation will stick around through the rest of 2026 and into early 2027.
August 7 is therefore more than the night before a brief refurbishment. It’s the final opportunity to experience the traditional Haunted Mansion this year.
Haunted Mansion Is About to Change
Disneyland regularly adjusts attraction availability throughout the year, but this particular closure comes with a major transformation attached.
Haunted Mansion will operate normally through August 7 before closing the following morning.
From August 8 through August 20, guests should expect the attraction to remain unavailable while Disney completes the conversion.
The doors are scheduled to reopen August 21.
For anyone visiting during that closure period, there won’t be a version of Haunted Mansion available to ride. Guests arriving immediately before or after it, meanwhile, will experience two very different attractions.
August 7 brings the classic mansion.

Haunted Mansion Holiday Takes Control
Disneyland has been transforming Haunted Mansion with The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) for decades, making the seasonal overlay a familiar part of the resort’s annual calendar.
Haunted Mansion Holiday first arrived in 2001 and has since developed into an attraction that some fans eagerly await each year.
The seasonal transformation mixes the mansion’s ghosts with Jack Skellington’s unusual approach to Christmas.
Instead of simply decorating the outside of the building, Disney carries the theme through the attraction itself. Characters and imagery inspired by the movie appear alongside the mansion’s established environments, creating an experience designed specifically for the seasonal period.
That requires plenty of work behind the scenes.
Disney will have only 12 full days between the August 8 closure and August 21 reopening to complete that change.
Guests Visiting in Mid-August Will Miss Haunted Mansion
The timing creates an important planning consideration for anyone heading to Disneyland in August.
Guests visiting August 8 through August 20 won’t be able to ride Haunted Mansion.
For a smaller attraction, a temporary closure might not dramatically affect a vacation. Haunted Mansion is different.
The 1969 attraction remains one of Disneyland Park’s signature experiences and one of the most famous rides Disney has ever created. Generations of guests have experienced its stretching room, Doom Buggies, ballroom scene, graveyard, and Hitchhiking Ghosts.
Losing that experience for nearly two weeks could be disappointing for visitors arriving during the closure.
And waiting until later in the year won’t bring back the same version.
The Original Experience Won’t Be Back This Year
Once Haunted Mansion Holiday begins, Disney will keep the seasonal transformation running through the end of 2026 and into early 2027.
That makes August 7 a firm dividing line on Disneyland’s calendar.
Before that date, guests can experience Haunted Mansion in its traditional format.
After the attraction reopens August 21, the mansion will remain under Jack Skellington’s influence for months.
That distinction matters because Haunted Mansion Holiday isn’t simply the regular attraction with a few extra decorations. It creates a noticeably different ride experience by combining two established Disney properties.
Fans naturally have their preferences.
Some consider Haunted Mansion Holiday an essential part of visiting Disneyland during the latter portion of the year. Others would rather see the attraction as it normally appears.
This summer, fans of the latter have until August 7.
One Last Ride Before the Transformation
Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion isn’t going away permanently, but its traditional form is about to disappear for a significant stretch.
The attraction will close August 8, undergo its seasonal overhaul, and return as Haunted Mansion Holiday on August 21.
Jack Skellington and the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) will then remain part of the experience through the remainder of 2026 and into early 2027.
Eventually, Disneyland will remove the seasonal overlay and restore Haunted Mansion to its traditional form.
