For three decades, The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) has stood as both a Halloween staple and a Christmas favorite. But after years of speculation about a sequel, the next chapter in Tim Burton’s stop-motion classic is finally taking shape — in comic book form.
Revealed at NYCC, Dynamite Entertainment is launching “Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town”, a four-issue series that continues the story of Halloween Town. This time, though, the spotlight belongs to Sally.

The comic follows Dr. Finkelstein as he unveils a new creation — a cute but mysterious creature he tasks Sally with caring for. Things quickly go awry when Lock, Shock, and Barrel whisk the creature away to Christmas Town, setting off another eerie yet heartwarming holiday journey.
However, while Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon) has always been the figurehead of the franchise, he appears to be completely absent from the upcoming comic book series.
The project brings together writer Torunn Grønbekk (“Venom”, “Thor”), artist Edu Menna (“Army of Darkness”), colorist Adriano Augusto, and letterer Taylor Esposito.
“Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is a feast of imagination and dark delights, and it has been a joy to play in and contribute to this world,” Grønbekk said. “In our story, little goes to plan: tricks are played, treats are had, and along the way, Dr. Finkelstein's new creation Shiver discovers the true magic of Halloween. Artist Edu Menna captures the gothic, whimsical atmosphere of the movie so beautifully, and I hope the book will introduce a new generation of readers to the enchanting world of Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Since its release in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas has grown across video games, theme park attractions, and the YA novel “Long Live the Pumpkin Queen”, but no film follow-up has ever materialized. That’s largely due to Burton’s own reluctance to revisit it. In a 2023 People interview, he said, “I’ve done sequels, I’ve done other things, I’ve done reboots. I don’t want that to happen to this.”
Either way, interest in The Nightmare Before Christmas shows no signs of fading, and this new comic book series could be the closest fans get to an official sequel for some time.
“Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town” #1 will be released in January 2026 from Dynamite Entertainment.
