Haunted MansionĀ truly honors the classic attraction and the characters within it. However, there is one character in the film that not all viewers may be familiar with. Jared Leto will portray Crump, also known as The Hatbox Ghost. The Hatbox Ghost is not a part of Walt Disney World’s Haunted Mansion attraction, but it is an iconic part of the one at Disneyland.

The Hatbox Ghost was a part of the Haunted Mansion when it opened at Disneyland in 1969. The Ghost stands just inside the mansion, before Guests fall out the window and the Doom Buggies begin to turn backward. The Ghost gives his creepy smile, and then his head disappears and reappears in the hat box that he is holding. Unfortunately, there were a number of technical problems with the ghost, and he was decommissioned not long after the attraction opened. After decades of pleading for its return, Disney finally made it happen, and the Hatbox Ghost returned to Disneyland in 2015.

The Hatbox Ghost has become such a memorable part of the Haunted Mansion that Disney announced he will be added to the Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World! He will make his debut sometime in 2023.

Haunted MansionĀ will hit theaters on the same day the Sipper is released — July 28. The new movie will tell the story of Gabbie (Dawson), a single mom who moves into a gorgeous New Orleans mansion with her son Chase. However, the haunts that inhabit the mansion are not very happy to see her. Gabbie must enlist the help of a priest, a professor, a paranormal investigator (Stanfield), and a psychic (Tiffany Haddish) if she and her son want to avoid becoming the mansion’s newest permanent residents.
