It’s going to be a busy decade for Disney Parks around the world. Last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the Walt Disney Company planned to spend $60 billion on parks over the next decade. But the full scope of that expansion has yet to come into focus.
After Iger’s announcement, Chairman of Disney Parks Josh D’Amaro announced at the D23 Expo that Walt Disney World would be getting a significant facelift, with changes coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the “largest expansion” in the history of the Magic Kingdom. But since that announcement, there has been no other announcement about the future expansion of Disney World.

So, while Walt Disney World awaits its future, the Disneyland Resort in California got a sneak peek at what will be coming next with the Disneyland Forward project. The project was announced back in 2021, but now, the details of that expansion were released by the Anaheim City Council.
The details show the project’s massive scope and that Disney plans to invest $2.5 billion over the next decade in the most significant expansion of Disneyland since the opening of Disney’s California Adventure. But beyond the money, Disney also teased some of the attractions that could be coming to the Disneyland Resort, which sound amazing.
New Disneyland Attractions
Disneyland Forward is slated to have 16 new attractions, including five thrill rides, nine family attractions, two round rides, and an outdoor show. But with the release of details from the Anaheim City Council, we are learning what some of those attractions might be.
Disney teased possible projects based on Wakanda from Black Panther (2018), Tangled (2010), Frozen (2013), Coco (2016), and Zootopia (2017). Disney has already opened a Frozen-themed land in Disneyland Hong Kong and a Zootopia land at Shanghai Disneyland.
Beyond just the new attractions, Disneyland Forward will also include a hotel, restaurants, retail, and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the current park. The plan also calls for a new 17,000-space parking structure with direct connections from the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway.
Disney also teased the possibility of Tron and Toy Story Land coming to Disneyland. With all the options, it’s hard to believe that Disney would have any problem getting this approved. However, there is an issue that Disneyland Forward will have to solve first.
The Public/Private Debate
But with this news comes the question of what the city of Anaheim is willing to give up for this theme park expansion. According to the Orange County Register, the Walt Disney Company will pay $40 million for portions of Magic Way, Clementine Street, Gene Autry Way, and Hotel Way to clear the way for the proposed theme park expansion.
Disney is also building three pedestrian bridges over Harbor Boulevard to connect the new parking structure with the theme park.

Anaheim will have to decide if they are willing to part with sections of publicly owned streets to accommodate the Disneyland expansion. The Anaheim City Council is expected to vote in May to finalize the deal with Disney.
