Disney’s Legendary Everest Coaster Shuts Down Without Warning

There’s a mystery brewing inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it has nothing to do with mythical creatures or hidden temples. Guests have been arriving excited to tackle one of Disney’s most thrilling adventures, only to find it out of service. It’s not a short delay or a morning hiccup—this feels different. The park’s signature mountain has gone quiet, and fans can’t stop talking about it.

Animal Kingdom’s Adventure Spirit

Animal Kingdom has always been Disney’s most immersive park, built around exploration and the natural world's beauty. Between safaris, stage shows, and breathtaking attractions, guests can easily spend an entire day exploring its lands. Still, one landmark dominates the skyline—the towering peak of Expedition Everest.

Located in the Asia section, the coaster has long been the park’s biggest thrill. Guests love the adrenaline rush of racing through the mountain and the surprise of its backward drop. For nearly two decades, it’s been the must-do experience for anyone craving speed and story in equal measure.

The Sudden Silence

Recently, though, Expedition Everest has been anything but reliable. Guests have reported multiple days where the attraction never opened, with some saying it only ran briefly before shutting down again. Social media posts describe disappointment, confusion, and long waits that ended with no payoff.

With Animal Kingdom offering fewer rides than Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, losing Everest for even part of the day leaves a noticeable gap. The closure has fans questioning whether this is a technical issue—or something more unusual.

Weather or Something Worse?

So far, Disney hasn’t commented publicly, but those close to the ride suggest the weather may be to blame. According to a former Cast Member, “It’s 100% weather-related; that ride hates the cold.” Another Cast Member confirmed, “Can confirm it is weather related. As my leader said to a guest today, ‘She’s feeling spicy.’”

It’s become a running joke among insiders, but the situation is real. Expedition Everest’s systems are particularly sensitive, and when Florida mornings dip into cooler temperatures, the ride doesn’t always respond well. Sensors may prevent operation until conditions are optimal, leaving guests waiting hours—or entire days—for it to reopen.

The Impact on Animal Kingdom

If cold weather continues, this could be a recurring problem. Expedition Everest draws massive crowds daily, and its absence shifts traffic to other attractions, especially Flight of Passage. For a park already light on thrill rides, that imbalance makes Animal Kingdom visits feel noticeably slower.

Guests planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip might arrive expecting a mountain adventure and leave disappointed. Meanwhile, locals and Annual Passholders who frequent the park have started adjusting their expectations until warmer weather returns.

Hoping for a Warm Comeback

The good news is that the issue appears to be temporary. Once Florida warms up, Expedition Everest is expected to resume regular operation. Until then, guests can focus on the park’s other treasures—like Flight of Passage, DINOSAUR, and Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Still, there’s no denying the park feels different without the echoing screams and roaring trains of its legendary mountain. For now, the Yeti slumbers, the track sits cold, and fans can only hope the adventure resumes soon. When it does, Expedition Everest will no doubt remind everyone why it remains the king of Disney’s coasters.
