Princesses Disappear From Disney World, Park Says Goodbye to Royalty

Walt Disney World Resort is making waves among fans with changes underway in the Royal Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. These rooms, beloved for their princess-themed decor, have begun to disappear, leaving Disney Parks fans wondering what’s next for this Moderate Resort hotel.

Last fall, Walt Disney World Resort announced refurbishment plans for Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside and several other Resort hotels. The Magnolia Bend section, home to the Royal Rooms, is the focus of this work at Port Orleans – Riverside. Despite their popularity, some guests have criticized the Royal Rooms’ high price and location, citing their distance from the Disney Resort’s main amenities and transportation options.

Signs that changes are underway have surfaced in unexpected places. Reddit user u/Classic_Pumpkin_7950 spotted a Facebook post from Forever Vintage advertising items like furniture, framed portraits, and coat hangers from the Royal Rooms at Port Orleans. This sparked questions among fans: Are these Disney Princess-themed rooms truly being phased out?

Are they really getting rid of the princess rooms at riverside? I’m hoping this is fake…. 😞

Instagram account @recyclingthemagic also shared images of Royal Room items—including the iconic fireworks headboards and tables accompanied by a handwritten note from Princess Tiana—available at their Central Florida store:

According to a Redditor claiming to be a Disney cast member, one of the two buildings currently housing Royal Rooms (Building 90) is converting to standard rooms, prompting the sale of related furnishings. Building 95, however, is expected to retain “toned down” Royal Rooms. While Disney has yet to confirm these changes officially, the timing aligns with the unavailability of Royal Rooms from August 2025 through early 2026, suggesting updates to the Disney Princess-themed rooms in building 95.

Walt Disney World Resort’s website still lists the princess-themed rooms as “fully refurbished rooms” featuring “fun regal touches from Tiana and her prince and princess pals.”

Construction at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is expected to continue through February 2026, while its sister resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, remains unaffected. Guests planning visits during this time should monitor Walt Disney World Resort’s website for updates on how the refurbishment might impact their stay.
