A weekend getaway to a Walt Disney World Deluxe Resort is supposed to be the pinnacle of a magical vacation. But for hundreds of families stranded at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, the trip of a lifetime has devolved into a grueling battle against the Florida elements.

The resort's catastrophic, hotel-wide air conditioning failure has entered its third consecutive day. Making matters worse, Central Florida is locked in an unrelenting summer heatwave, with back-to-back Heat Advisories driving the real-feel heat index to a hazardous 111°F.
While engineering teams have finally scored a few mechanical breakthroughs, guests are discovering a harsh reality: turning the air conditioning back on does not instantly fix a building that has been baking in the sun for 48 hours.
The Breakthrough: Copper Creek Cools Down, Main Lodge Slowly Thaws
Late Friday night, a wave of relief finally hit the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) wing of the property. Engineering crews successfully revived a massive auxiliary cooling unit, and guests staying in the Copper Creek Villas reported that crisp, cold air was finally flowing through their vents again.

Similarly, select pockets of the main lodge have started to see their thermostats drop from the sweltering 90s down to a much more bearable 74°F.
However, this partial victory has brought a secondary engineering hurdle to light: the thermal load effect, commonly known as “heat soak.”
The Physics of the Thaw: The massive Pacific Northwest logs, towering stone fireplaces, and heavy concrete pillars that give the Wilderness Lodge its iconic look have been absorbing pure, unmitigated Florida heat for two straight days. Even with industrial HVAC units running at maximum capacity, the structural materials themselves are actively radiating heat inward. Like a heavy iron skillet turned off but left on the stove, the building remains intensely hot to the touch.
Because of this physical phenomenon, massive common spaces like the 82-foot grand lobby remain intensely warm, humid, and stagnant.
App Verification: High-Profile Restaurants Dark for the Weekend
The lingering structural heat has completely paralyzed the resort's premier food-and-beverage operations. Industrial kitchens cannot safely operate, and dining rooms cannot comfortably host guests under these stifling conditions.

According to a live check of the My Disney Experience app, Disney has completely pulled the plug on table-service dining at the main lodge.
The app shows absolutely zero reservation inventory, confirming total closures for the day:
- Whispering Canyon Cafe: The high-energy, family-style eatery located right off the main lobby is completely closed.
- Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White: The flagship character dining experience has suspended operations, with Disney proactively wiping out all existing reservations.
Fortunately, the quick-service location, Roaring Fork, is still open for grab-and-go items and cold drinks. Meanwhile, the neighboring Boulder Ridge Villas continue to operate normally on their own separate, unaffected cooling loop.
Inside the Triage: Massive Relocations and Room Comps
To empty the sweltering building and appease furious travelers, Disney management has scaled up an aggressive operational triage program.

- Emergency Resort Transfers: Because it is peak summer travel season, identical Deluxe-tier rooms are nearly impossible to find. Disney is facilitating immediate relocations to guaranteed open inventory at Moderate and Value-tier resorts, such as Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and Disney's Art of Animation Resort, while covering the backend logistical adjustments.
- Historic Room Compensation: For families choosing to stick it out in their rooms with hotel-provided box fans while the HVAC system slowly overpowers the heat soak, Disney is doling out historic refunds. Multiple guests currently on property report that Disney is fully comping up to three nights of their resort stay on their final billing statements.

If you are scheduled to check into Disney’s Wilderness Lodge over the weekend, travel experts strongly advise opening your My Disney Experience app or calling Guest Services to secure a resort relocation before you arrive on property. Navigating a sweltering lobby is the last thing you want to do to start your vacation.
