Don’t Waste Your FastPasses on These 5 Attractions at Hollywood Studios

With the advent of My Disney Experience and your ability to schedule your group’s FastPasses 60 days in advance, it is important to have a strategy when booking FastPasses to maximize your enjoyment in the parks, as well as minimize time you spend in line. Even though it seems like Hollywood Studios is being shutdown, there are still plenty of rides and attractions for you to enjoy. Here are the five attractions that you should not waste your FastPasses on at Hollywood Studios.

5 – Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show – located in the back of the Streets of America, this “behind the scenes” stunt show is HUGE. The stadium will seat approximately 5,000 guests per show. FastPass users only get a dedicated line into the attraction that eventually merges with the standby line. There are no special FastPass seats. The only tip I would offer is to get there a little before start time so you can find a good seat so you can see all of the show and a covered seat (in case it starts raining or to stay out of the sun). Be aware that on slow days in the park, there may only be one showing of this, so be sure to consult your Times Guide when entering the park if you want to check this show out!

4 – MuppetVision 3D – located along the Streets of America, MuppetVision 3D is a great distraction from the crowds and the elements, but you don’t ever need a FastPass for it. The auditorium is large and I have never had to wait longer than one show to get in to see it. The shows run continuously throughout the day. I would actually recommend getting there and taking some time to explore the queue area, as well as watch the pre-show video before the show!

3 – Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage – located along Sunset Boulevard, Beauty and the Beast is a wonderful stage adaption of the popular movie. Again, there is a generous amount of seating for the show. You will want to arrive a little early to grab some good seats, but with multiple showings each day, you won’t have any problem getting in for one of the shows without a FastPass. Again, consult a Times Guide when you arrive in the park to check that day’s showtimes!

2 – Voyage of the Little Mermaid – this show located just inside of the Animation Courtyard is an eclectic mixture of blacklight puppetry, live-action song, and even an audience misting! This is one of my favorite places to go on a hot day to escape the heat! The shows lasts only 15 minutes and there are showings approximately every 25 minutes. The theatre itself isn’t huge, but I have never had issues getting in. Again, with so many shows throughout the day, if the line is long, skip over the ride and double back later on!

1 – Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular – one of the most popular attractions at Hollywood Studios, Indiana Jones has a huge theatre for its show, seating over 2,000 people. Shows are offered sporadically throughout the day depending on expected crowd levels and time of the year, so, again, a Times Guide is crucial to knowing when to stop by! A FastPass may only be advisable if you are trying to get selected to participate in the show as they pick those volunteers early and usually from the middle section where FastPass holders are seated if they are early enough. But, if you arrive 15-20 minutes before showtime, you should have no problem finding an amazing seat!

Hollywood Studios uses the less popular tier system for FastPass selection. This means that guests are required to pick one attraction from Tier 1 (more popular) and then select 2 from Tier 2. Toy Story Midway Mania is the most popular attraction at Hollywood Studios and the wait is intolerable without a FastPass easily over 60 minutes and often over 90 minutes. It is a FastPass must! That is usually my Tier 1 selection and then I use my Tier 2 selections on Tower of Terror and Star Tours (which usually has a light line (20-30 minutes)).

FastPasses are a hot commodity and there are rumors that Disney is test running a fourth FastPass for guests. Be sure to read up on your attractions before booking them so you are using them only on the best rides!
