The Waterfall Goes Dry
WDWNT reported on August 11 that Walt Disney World Resort had installed new scaffolding behind the existing brown construction walls near the iconic waterfall in the Canada World Showcase Pavilion, with some sections of the scaffolding covered in scrim fabric.
The outlet shared a photo of the construction setup, which reveals the waterfall has been turned off entirely, exposing the stark visual difference between the water-worn rocks constantly bathed in the falls and the drier brown rockwork surrounding them. The contrast makes clear just how much weathering the water-exposed surfaces have accumulated over the years.
Construction walls first appeared near the waterfall in early August, but the installation of scaffolding and scrim this week confirms that the project is more involved than initial surface-level maintenance. Walt Disney World Resort hasn't issued any statement about the work, but the evidence clearly points to a refurbishment of the waterfall area — most likely including a repaint of both the water-exposed rocks and the surrounding surfaces once the scaffolding is fully in place.
One complicating factor, according to WDWNT, is the presence of real plants and established root systems throughout the waterfall area — an unusual characteristic that makes maintenance in this particular corner of EPCOT considerably more delicate than comparable projects elsewhere in the park.
Canada Far and Wide Stays Open
Despite construction around the waterfall, the Canada World Showcase Pavilion's main attraction — Canada Far and Wide — remains open to guests throughout the refurbishment. The standard accessible entrance is currently blocked by the construction setup, but guests who need accessible entry can use the attraction's exit entrance instead. Disney cast members in the area can assist with directions.
