Two emergency calls disrupted the EPCOT Resort Area on Sunday evening, the latest in a string of tragic incidents across Walt Disney World Resort this fall. Just before sunset, law enforcement and medical personnel were dispatched to the area surrounding Disney’s BoardWalk Inn following two separate alerts, a reported battery and a “person down,” within minutes of each other.
A Difficult Fall at Walt Disney World Resort
The latest emergency response follows a tragic two months for the Central Florida vacation destination. On October 14, authorities were called to Disney’s Contemporary Resort after rumors circulated about a Monorail-related accident. Law enforcement later confirmed that a guest, 31-year-old Summer Equitz, had died by suicide after a fall inside the lobby. She had been reported missing after taking a sudden flight to Florida.

Only days later, deputies responded to the death of another guest at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, a case ultimately determined to be from natural causes. The tragedy was followed by another heartbreaking incident at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on October 21, when 28-year-old Matthew Cohn died by suicide after falling from his 12th-floor Bay Lake Tower room.
The deaths continued into November. A woman passed away at Disney’s Pop Century Resort on November 2 after a suspected medical emergency, and another guest died at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort on November 8 under similar circumstances. In both cases, authorities stated that foul play was not suspected.

A “person down” alert can refer to many situations, including fainting, dehydration, or a more serious medical emergency. Walt Disney World Resort does not issue public statements regarding routine medical incidents, and additional details are rarely released unless a crime is involved. It remains unclear whether Sunday’s two 911 calls were connected or whether the individual involved required hospitalization.
