Epic Universe Sets Expansion Outside of Orlando: New Development Sparks Excitement

More Monsters on the Way?

For decades, theme parks have promised something few other experiences can offer: the chance to step directly into the worlds we’ve only seen on screens.

Whether guests are wandering through the streets of Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando Resort or stepping onto the Millennium Falcon in Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge, the modern theme park is increasingly about immersion. The Walt Disney Company and Universal Destinations & Experiences have both leaned heavily into this idea, building lands designed to transport visitors directly into beloved stories.

But what happens when those worlds begin expanding beyond the park gates again?

A recent development tied to Universal’s newest theme park land is sparking speculation that the company may be preparing to do exactly that.

Universal’s Classic Monsters Have Been Waiting for a Comeback

Few characters in entertainment history carry the same cultural weight as the Universal Monsters.

Icons like Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the Wolf Man helped define the horror genre nearly a century ago. Beginning with films such as Dracula (1931) and Frankenstein (1931), Universal Pictures established a monster legacy that still shapes pop culture today.

Over the decades, these legendary characters have remained deeply tied to Universal’s brand identity. They appear throughout Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort during seasonal events like Halloween Horror Nights, where fans eagerly line up to encounter the studio’s most infamous creatures.

More recently, Universal doubled down on this legacy with a bold creative move: dedicating an entire themed land to these characters.

Dark Universe at Epic Universe Brings Monsters Back Into the Spotlight

Universal’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, introduces guests to several ambitious lands, but one of the most talked-about is Dark Universe.

The land centers on Universal’s classic monsters, bringing a gothic village setting filled with eerie experiments, mysterious laboratories, and encounters with legendary creatures. It’s a darker, more atmospheric environment compared to many traditional theme park areas.

For longtime horror fans, it represents something they’ve been waiting years to see: the Universal Monsters receiving the same immersive treatment that franchises like Harry Potter have enjoyed.

And while the land itself is already generating significant buzz among theme park enthusiasts, a new report suggests the story might not stop at the park gates.

A New Report Suggests the Monsters May Be Headed to Television

According to Esquire, writer-director Kevin Williamson—best known for creating Scream—has revealed he is currently writing a television project tied directly to the Universal Monsters.

In the interview, Williamson shared that the series is set within a Universal monster land and will feature some of the studio’s most recognizable characters.

“It’s based in the Universal monster land. I get to play with some of those characters like Dracula and Frankenstein and the Wolf Man and have fun there.”

Williamson also described the show as something akin to “an adult Vampire Diaries.”

The project appears to be connected conceptually to Universal’s monster-themed environment, which has led many fans to speculate about its relationship to the Dark Universe land at Epic Universe.

At the moment, very few details have been confirmed. There is no official release window, cast information, or platform announcement beyond the fact that Williamson is currently writing the series.

Still, the connection between the project and Universal’s monster land has immediately captured attention among both horror fans and theme park enthusiasts.

Social Media Is Already Speculating About the Future of the Monsters

It didn’t take long for theme park communities to start reacting.

Across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit, fans are already discussing what a Universal Monsters series could look like—and how closely it might tie into Epic Universe.

Some users are excited about the possibility of deeper storytelling tied to the park experience, suggesting that Universal could be building a larger narrative universe around its classic monsters.

Others are simply thrilled to see Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the Wolf Man returning to the spotlight in a major way.

Several fans even pointed out that horror-themed storytelling could offer Universal something distinctly different from Disney’s family-focused franchises.

While the project is still early in development, the online conversation suggests the appetite for more Universal Monsters content is very real.

What This Could Mean for Epic Universe and the Future of Universal Monsters

If the series moves forward, it could represent a major step in how theme park storytelling evolves.

For years, theme parks have drawn inspiration from films and television. But increasingly, the relationship is becoming more circular—parks inspiring new media projects that expand the stories guests encounter in person.

Universal has already seen enormous success with this approach through The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which blurred the lines between cinematic storytelling and physical environments.

A Universal Monsters series tied to Dark Universe could take that concept even further.

At this point, however, very little has been officially confirmed beyond Williamson’s involvement and the project’s monster-focused setting.

Still, the idea alone is enough to spark imagination among fans.

If Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man truly return in a new television series inspired by Epic Universe, it could mark the beginning of a much larger revival for Universal’s most legendary characters.

For now, fans will have to wait for more details.

But one thing is clear: the monsters may not be finished haunting the spotlight just yet.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
