It appears that Walt Disney World Guests are going to have to wait a little longer to explore The Forbidden Mountain once again.

The Walt Disney World Resort closed its beloved E-Ticket attraction, Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain on January 4, 2022. While Disney World’s website still states that the ride will be closed until “mid-April,” the MyDisneyExperience App now appears to confirm that reopening will be delayed until May 1 at the earliest.

This news means that the ride will be unavailable to Disney Fanatics visiting during Easter Break (week/weekend of April 17, 2022). Guests planning to visit before May 1, 2022, should plan accordingly.

Disney announced that closure was for ride refurbishment, and fans have both hoped and speculated that the refurbishment includes finally fixing the massive yeti animatronic that has been unable to move for years. However, there has been no official word from Disney that such a repair is underway.

We at Disney Fanatic will continue to monitor this ride closure and will update our readers as more information comes to light.

A foreboding landmark of the Asia-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, Expedition Everest is a wild train ride through the Himalayas, soaring to great heights and dodging the ferocious Guardian of the mountain: The Yeti.

Disney World describes the attraction on its website as the following:

Yeti or Not, Here He Comes!

Wander into a Tibetan village at the base of Mount Everest and board a train to the “top of the world.” Beware: Some say a legendary snow monster lives deep in the mountain.

After a steep ascent, your train picks up speed and races into the darkness. Without warning, a broken and twisted track appears in front of you. Brace yourself as you plummet backward into total darkness. Inside the cavern, the mythical tale comes true as you see the shadow of a massive, growling beast!

Race to escape the cursed mountain—before the Yeti claims another expedition.

A Word of Warning

Some parts of Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain may be scary for children. This attraction features loud noises, fast drops, high speeds, dark places and frightening creature effects.
