Fans React to Disney World Cutting Cosmic Rewind Attraction Down in Florida

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind pre-show at EPCOT just got a little tighter. Disney has removed the pause that followed one of Nova Corps Centurion Tal Marik's lines, closing a gap that guests had long used to shout their own answers at the screen.

What Changed in the Pre-Show

During the pre-show, Tal Marik, played by Terry Crews, asks guests what they call themselves. The video used to hold for a beat afterward, and that silence became an open invitation. EPCOT has an unofficial reputation as the “drinking” park, driven largely by the fan-favorite Drink Around the World activity, so the go-to response was “alcoholics,” along with other similarly polarizing remarks.

The footage now moves straight from the question into Tal Marik's next piece of dialogue. Disney has not given an official reason, but the edit clearly removes the chance for guests to have their say.

A Ride That Keeps Evolving

Cosmic Rewind opened in World Discovery in 2022 and remains one of the most in-demand experiences at Walt Disney World four years on. The Marvel coaster is EPCOT's Lightning Lane Single Pass option and is also included in the Premier Pass, making it a priority pick for many guests. Lightning Lane queues are frequently busy, while standby lines often mean long waits. During the September 21 event, the wait for the omnicoaster peaked at 185 minutes.

That demand has prompted operational tweaks. Cast members recently adjusted the pre-show exit process, which often saw hundreds of guests vying for a spot further up the line.

How Fans Are Reacting

On Reddit, many fans welcomed the pre-show pause change, describing the shouted remarks as “cringe.”

DrOddfellow wrote, “The last time I heard someone shout alcoholics, they sounded so proud of themselves while saying it, but then they were booed mercilessly by the room with one person going ‘YOU'RE NOT FUNNY.' Shi was kinda funny first time it went viral in 2022, hasn't been funny since that one person tho.”

Kenny_RogersRoasters added, “Finally. The amount of cringe that people would yell that they and only they thought was funny was out of control.”

Others pointed to similar behavior elsewhere. FjordAhoy wrote, “Because people have to over exaggerate how bothered they are over nothing. Meanwhile, reciting the entire Haunted Mansion stretch room script is actually annoying because it takes everyone else out of the moment—no different than someone saying the lines in a movie to prove they're big fans. We get it. You know the lines. Quiet.”

SittinByThePool echoed the point: “It's always funny to me you have the people who yell and think they're so cool for being obnoxious for what could be many people's first or only time riding the ride. Or the people in haunted mansion that quote every line of the preshow loudly to show everyone how many times they've been. The worst people lol.”

Not everyone is convinced the edit will work. Admiral_Austinfinity wrote, “This isn't going to make a difference. In fact it just means the same people who shout something out are now going to actively talk over Terry and confuse others even worse.”

The Bigger Picture

EPCOT is one of four main parks at Walt Disney World, alongside Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom. It began as Walt Disney's concept for an innovative community. Today, World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature, and World Showcase host attractions including Spaceship Earth and The Seas with Nemo & Friends.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
