Mckenna Grace says she would happily return to the world of Ghostbusters — even if another film isn’t currently in the works.
The actor, who plays Phoebe Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), recently addressed the possibility of reprising the fan-favorite role. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter following the release of her latest film, Scream 7 (2026), Grace made it clear she’d welcome the opportunity if Sony decides to continue the franchise.

“I think there’s always hope. Personally, I haven’t heard anything lately. I’d be more secretive if I had,” Grace said. “I would always be honored to play Phoebe again, and whether it would be next year, I feel like I would have heard about it by now if I was. So my fingers are always crossed. As of right now, I have no clue, but I definitely think that it could be a possibility someday in the future.”
Grace starred alongside Celeste O’Connor in Scream 7, marking another collaboration between the two actors outside the supernatural franchise. The film’s soundtrack also features a chart-topping collaboration between Grace, who's also an established singer, and Ice Nine Kills.

Her career has expanded rapidly in recent months. Grace recently appeared in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025) and has been cast in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026). She's also set to portray Daphne in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series.
The modern Ghostbusters films introduced Grace as part of a new generation of characters connected to the original team. Afterlife brought Phoebe and her brother Trevor (played by Finn Wolfhard) to the center of the story, alongside Logan Kim’s Podcast and O’Connor’s Lucky.
The film proved to be both a commercial and critical success, successfully reviving the franchise decades after Ghostbusters II (1989). It also followed Sony’s earlier attempt to reboot the series with the female-led Ghostbusters (2016), starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, which became a widely criticized box-office disappointment.

The franchise originally began with the beloved supernatural comedy Ghostbusters (1984), starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson.
After the success of Afterlife, Sony followed up with Frozen Empire in 2024, which brought the new cast and legacy characters together in New York City. While the film expanded the franchise’s mythology, it received a more divisive reception from critics and audiences and did not match the box-office performance of its predecessor.
For now, Sony has not announced another live-action installment. However, the franchise is continuing to expand, with both an animated series and an animated film currently in development for Netflix.
