In a segment with Billboard called “Speed Dating,” celebrities are asked a series of quick questions about their life — and in her very recent Speed Dating segment, Frozen star Idina Menzel made it clear that she has a thing for classic live-action Disney movie stars as well as a fondness for an unexpected Disney heroine!
From Softball Questions to Hardball Questions
The Broadway performer and singer spoke to host Tetris Kelly in the interview, answering questions about her hometown and childhood passions — not to mention celebrity crushes — before moving on to a Disney question.
Who’s the Fairest of Them All (Besides Elsa)?
“Who’s your favorite Disney princess who’s not Elsa?” Kelly asked the Disenchanted star.
Disney Legend Idina Menzel responded with a surprising answer, particularly considering the character’s recent appearance in the newest Peter Pan movie!
“Can I say Tinker Bell? [She’s] not really a princess, but…” Menzel replied.
Tinker Bell is a feisty Pixie Hollow fairy from the world of Neverland in the original Peter Pan movies (although Disney has actually labeled the character as problematic now due to her appearance and her vanity), who was portrayed by a particularly iconic performer back in the day.
The Old or the New Tinker Bell?
She was most recently represented by A-list actress Yara Shahidi in the new movie Peter Pan & Wendy, and unfortunately, Shahidi faced a great deal of racist backlash due to her casting (just like Disney’s new little mermaid, Halle Bailey, did).
Whether or not Disney supports the old Tinker Bell or Disney’s audiences embrace the new version of the fairy, “Elsa says she’s a princess,” host Tetris Kelly declared in the rapid-fire interview.
Are you a fan of Tinker Bell from the old Peter Pan movies or the new Tinker Bell played by Yara Shahidi?
Do you think that Idina Menzel should have chosen Queen Anna as her favorite Disney princess or Disney royal, since she is Elsa’s sister, and are you excited to learn more about Frozen 3 as the intriguing new Disney movie comes closer to audiences?
