Mermaid vs Superhero: Fans Call Out Audiences’ Hypocrisy After Ezra Miller Returns

Unfortunately, Disney and Marvel fans will not be shocked to hear about an A-list actor committing crimes or being accused of terrible behaviors.

A Return From Disgrace

We have already seen several high-profile Marvel or DC stars being accused of crimes, with tremendous career-altering backlash as a result, but one Hollywood star is making their return to theaters after a highly-publicized fall from grace — and Disney fans are clearly very disturbed by this return, particularly when it’s compared to the Disney debut of a certain little mermaid.

Ezra Miller is an actor known for playing the DC superhero called “the Flash.”

The character’s new solo movie, The Flash, is about to premiere in theaters — and Miller is indeed still playing the role and attending at least one of the movie’s red carpet events, despite being accused of multiple crimes including “grooming, abuse, and erratic, disturbing behavior.”

This return has not gone unnoticed by observant Disney fans, particularly those who have been watching the actress and singer Halle Bailey contend with shocking amounts of racist hate and sabotage after she was cast in the role of Ariel the little mermaid for the new live-action film.

“Yes” to Superheroes, “No” to Mermaids?

Halle Bailey has received stellar praise now that critics and audiences have started seeing her in the role of Ariel (including fans like the original Ariel and Dwayne Johnson), but Ezra Miller’s return to moviemaking and discussions around film studios’ hypocrisy have highlighted the disparity between the two celebrities’ experiences.

“I’ve seen more ‘backlash’ for Halle Bailey simply being a black woman accepting the role of Ariel than I have for Ezra Miller committing literal crimes,” one person pointed out in the Instagram post shown above.

Halle Bailey remained positive and kind throughout the press tour for The Little Mermaid, despite being harassed and attacked by people online.

Other Disney stars like Josh Gad and Keke Palmer were quick to come to her defense, calling her attackers “pathetic” and unintelligent — but even though the new Little Mermaid has been a record-breaking success, Bailey still had to endure a disturbing amount of negativity from audiences on an enormous scale.

Have you noticed how the treatment of Halle Bailey has differed from the treatment of Ezra Miller? Did you know about the struggles that the Disney star has been facing, as well as the allegations that have been directed at the DC star?
