What do you get when you combine actors Amber Heard, Tenoch Huerta, Ezra Miller, and Jonathan Majors? If you are a person keeping up with the news lately, odds are you already know the answer to this question. These prolific actors have been a major source of controversy, some more recently than others. They all have another thing in common though. Each has a superhero or villain role in major franchises as a claim to fame. Marvel and DC often have similar elements, but some on the internet joke that the uncanny similarities of these controversial actors’ roles must create a recipe for disaster.

So what has the internet realized between the four actors and their respective roles that link all of them? The recipe to create actor controversy in a franchise is being cast as underwater royalty or a time traveler in a superhero movie. Let’s break down the ingredients.

Under the Sea

Amber Heard and Tenoch Huerta each play aquatic characters of royalty. Heard’s involvement in a high-profile legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp has been controversial for years. Despite the drama surrounding the outcome of her legal proceedings, the actress landed the role of Mera, DC’s princess from the subaquatic kingdom of Xebel, for a second time. This decision has sparked intense debates on social media platforms, with fans divided on whether or not she should be given another chance.

Similarly, Tenoch Huerta’s character, Namor, rules the sunken kingdom of Talokan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has recently been accused of sexual assault by Mexican activist Maria Elena Rios. While Huerta denies the claims, he has now found himself as a source of controversy for the franchise.

Time Manipulation

Meanwhile, Ezra Miller and Jonathan Majors are drawing negative attention as well. Miller, known for their role as the Flash, has faced their fair share of controversies, including a physical altercation with a fan and a video leak that raised concerns about their behavior off-screen. These incidents have led to debates about their suitability for such a pivotal role. Their Justice League character can manipulate time as a defining trait.

On the other hand, Majors’ casting as Kang the Conqueror, a time-traveling supervillain, has also raised issues. His future in the villainous role has been up in the air since being arrested for domestic assault. While it is also unclear how these serious charges will play out, the actor has been dropped by his management company.

What are the odds, right?

Reddit users have noticed these similarities and have been buzzing with humorous comments to a meme suggesting that having underwater royalty and time-traveling characters in the same franchise is a recipe for disaster. Others have questioned why they remain in their respective roles despite the controversies surrounding them.

One user was quick to point out that the reason is way more simple in their opinion than an uncanny recipe:

What if Hollywood just naturally attracts narcissists, cluster-b, and other anti-social personality types?

The controversy surrounding these four actors will undoubtedly cause major speedbumps as their superhero franchises continue churning out new films. While some are still eager to see their favorite characters come to life on the big screen, others are unsure that these casting decisions should remain. For now, all we can do is wait and see.
