Disney Genie+, the paid replacement for the former FastPass+ selection process in the My Disney Experience app, has already gone through a number of changes since it launched last year. In the latest change, Disney just announced that the pre-arrival purchase option to add Genie+ to your theme park tickets ahead of your trip will be removed in just a couple of weeks. Beginning June 8, 2022, access to Genie+ will be available only on the day of your visit to a Walt Disney World theme park with purchase through the My Disney Experience app.

The Disney Parks Blog announced the change, which also comes with 2023 vacation bookings opening on the same date, June 8, 2023. Currently, Guests who book their trip to the Walt Disney World Resort after June 8 for the remainder of 2022 and for 2023 will only be able to purchase Genie+ on the same day as their visit, and the service will be subject to availability.

It is important to note (especially if you’ve already booked a Disney vacation for later this year!) that this change to Disney Genie+ only impacts ticket purchases beginning on June 8, regardless of the date the tickets will be used. Therefore, if you have already booked a trip for late this year and have tickets and park reservations booked with Genie+ as an add-on, you will still be able to use Genie+ during your trip.

The same-day purchase model for Genie+ should allow Disney to limit the number of Guests purchasing the add-on, especially on days when the park is at increased capacity due to peak times of the year like spring break, Christmas week, and Fourth of July, which should make for more efficient use of the service for those Guests who are able to use it.

With Genie+ moving to the day-of purchase model, and being based on availability, individual Lightning Lane attractions are not affected by this change, and will still be based on their on availability, separate from daily purchases of the Disney Genie service.

At this time, this change is only being implemented at the Walt Disney World Resort, and so far no updates on pre-arrival purchases have been made to Disney Genie+ or Lightning Lane at the Disneyland Resort.

Disney Genie+ allows Guests to access select theme park attractions at the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney‘s Hollywood Studios, and Disney‘s Animal Kingdom through the Lightning Lane entrance as an optional add-on to park tickets. Select attractions are available as separate Lightning Lane purchases, so if a Guest opts to use Genie+ they may find themselves still making a separate Lightning Lane selection or two.

We will be back with any additional updates as we have them related to Disney Genie+ here on Disney Fanatic.
