Spaceship Earth, one of EPCOT’s most iconic attractions, has officially closed for an indefinite refurbishment, and guests have already begun to notice some changes around the ride. As of Monday, August 25, Disney Park visitors spotted some new signage and updates around the geodesic sphere.
Guests entering EPCOT on Monday found that Spaceship Earth’s entrance and exits were blocked off, with multiple signs redirecting them to the adults-only lounge, GEO-82. The lounge, which opened in June, offers an upscale experience with premium drinks and small bites, inspired by the themes and cultures represented at EPCOT.

Walt Disney World Resort has yet to release concrete plans for the attraction’s refurbishment. The ride was initially scheduled for a massive overhaul ahead of the park’s 50th anniversary in 2021. As with many Disney projects, the overhaul was permanently delayed due to budget and staffing issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving the future of Spaceship Earth in question.
On August 25, WDWNT reported that signs outside both of Spaceship Earth’s exits now direct guests to GEO-82. A blue, double-sided sign on the East side of Spaceship Earth reads: “Project Tomorrow is currently unavailable. GEO-82 is still welcoming guests at the West entrance.” Two golden signs with the GEO-82 logo now stand near the automatic doorways on the West side, marking the entrance to the adults-only lounge.

Despite the temporary closure of Spaceship Earth and its post-ride Project Tomorrow area, GEO-82 remains open throughout the refurbishment. Reservations for the bar can be made up to 60 days in advance. However, keep in mind that this lounge is adults-only, and guests must be 21 years or older to enter.
Well done Geo-82
