Disney Guests Watch in Horror as Water Drains From Ride While They’re on Board

Disneyland Resort’s Grizzly River Run experienced a rather unsettling incident last week when guests were left stuck on the ride as the water drained. The river rapids attraction at Disney California Adventure Park typically sends riders plunging through swirling whitewater twists and drops, soaking them with water along the way. However, during one ride on Thursday, the situation took an unexpected turn.

Reddit user u/depeletedtank shared several photos taken while waiting to evacuate Grizzly River Run on Thursday. The guest said Disney cast members explained that some sort of “mechanical fault” caused the ride to break down.

Fortunately, Disney cast members were able to resolve the issue quickly, and the water was drained into a holding area to allow guests to evacuate.

Disneyland Resort cast members informed the guests that it would take about 20 minutes to drain the water before the evacuation process could begin. Despite the unusual circumstances, the guest described the evacuation as “pretty painless.”

“Cast say it takes about 20 mins to drain and then you have to unload from the rafts,” the guest explained. “Pretty painless and cast were very courteous about the whole situation!”

The guests were eventually able to exit the ride without any further issues.

While this was an inconvenient experience, it’s not uncommon for Disney Park rides to experience operational pauses. Like all high-capacity attractions, Grizzly River Run occasionally faces technical challenges or weather-related delays, which can lead to temporary closures or evacuations.

Interestingly, the guest noted that Grizzly River Run shut down several more times on Thursday, saying, “I’d say from looking at the wait times and seeing it closed that this has happened a couple of times today, seems like a bit of a rough day.” It’s unclear whether these additional shutdowns also involved evacuations, but the ride was reportedly back up and running smoothly soon after.

Disneyland Resort has not issued a statement about the technical issue on Thursday, but the attraction was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication.
