In 2023, Disneyland Resort reimagined Mickey’s Toontown to be more interactive, playful, and sensory-friendly for families. However, according to fans online, some Disney Park guests have taken that invitation too far, who say children are using the land’s decorative fountains as swimming pools.
On August 31, Redditor u/Hey_yo_its_me posted about witnessing the unusual guest behavior in Mickey’s Toontown. “First time seeing something like that,” the user wrote. “And kids even made it to the second level of the fountain. I envy those kids coz its HOT today, but at the same time kinda cringey. Took awhile before [Disney cast members] handled it. I’m guessing a SIGN will be put up there soon. Parents fault!”
Disney Parks fans quickly weighed in on the so-called “nasty” behavior. Some criticized Disneyland Resort for not stopping it fast enough, while others placed the blame squarely on the parents.
Several commenters shared stories of seeing similar behavior at Disneyland Resort.

“I’ve seen a family with 4 kids playing in the fountain months ago,” u/Grand-Painting7637 wrote. “The parents even gave their kids cups and they were filling them up while in the fountain and drinking the water. I was gonna yack. The parents sat there watching as they were doing this too all while laughing.”
“I’ve only seen kids in the bottom tier, but it’s a huge problem,” u/FairyRebelsWild added. “They should probably assign a cast member nearby to enforce rules.”
For many Disney Parks fans, the biggest concern was safety.

“Until a kid breaks their head open, Disney probably won’t prioritize that as a safety position and will use the labor on attractions/foods/etc.,” u/WorkOutDrinkMore commented. “Now once something bad and nasty happens they’ll do a knee jerk reaction and get someone in there. But I promise the people letting their kids do this already won’t be stopped by a little sign.”
“I worked there for several years and I’d never let the water touch me,” u/iSavedtheGalaxy said. “Just because it’s clear doesn’t mean it’s clean. The water systems are interconnected and full of all kinds of chemicals to kill the algae, bacteria, piss, shit, vomit, etc that winds up in the water. One of my coworkers fell in the water and they sent him to on-site Urgent Care for shots.”

Plenty of commenters criticized parents who allowed their children to splash and swim in fountains meant for decoration.
“If only we can get parents to parent at Disneyland,” u/snakes_lil_bandit wrote.
But not everyone agreed. Some argued that playing in the fountain was harmless fun on a hot day.

“Let’s be honest. The sun do be trying to murder us some days,” u/E1M1_DOOM said. “These kids are fighting for survival.”
Another user, u/Usual-Wheel7497, added: “Never see any reason for kids to not get wet when they can…If kids strip down a little who really care except for a few prudes.”
As of September 3, 2025, Disneyland Resort has not announced any changes or posted new signage near the Mickey’s Toontown fountain.
