Frozen Ever After has become one of the most celebrated attractions introduced to Disney parks in the last decade. First launched at EPCOT in 2016 and expanded into Hong Kong Disneyland’s World of Frozen in 2023, the ride combines advanced technology with familiar songs to transport guests into the world of Arendelle.
That same attraction, however, was the site of a tragedy this week.

Details of the Incident
At approximately 10 a.m. on August 29, a male guest visiting from the Philippines with his wife fell unconscious during the boat ride. When the vehicle returned to the unloading area, cast members performed CPR and called for emergency assistance.
The man, who had a history of heart disease and high blood pressure and was taking medication for both, was transported by ambulance to North Lantau Hospital. He was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later, at 11:30 a.m.
According to Ming Pao, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort expressed regret following the incident, stating it would provide support to the man’s family. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the cause was unrelated to the attraction’s safety.

World of Frozen’s Role at Hong Kong Disneyland
World of Frozen has been positioned as a major milestone in the park’s history. The land features two rides — Frozen Ever After and Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs — alongside shops, restaurants, and highly detailed theming designed to replicate the mountainous landscapes of the film.
For Disney, the expansion represented an investment in growing attendance across Asia. The debut in late 2023 drew widespread attention, as it marked the first time an entire land was devoted to the Frozen franchise.
Broader Context of Medical Emergencies
Though rare, health-related emergencies are not new to Disney’s global operations. In 2024, for example, a family at Disneyland Paris was stranded after a grandfather suffered a heart attack. The situation left relatives struggling to navigate medical care abroad.

In Anaheim, a December incident at Disneyland Resort drew attention when a guest described difficulties leaving the park after a member of their party experienced a medical emergency. While staff were praised for quickly arranging hospital transport, the group later criticized how complicated the process was to reunite with their loved one.
“Why are they making me walk through Disneyland out to the tram?” one family member said on TikTok, detailing how they spent 20 minutes waiting before being directed to the parking garage. “They left me stranded trying to get to the hospital…My husband was out of surgery before I even got to the hospital.”

We had a medical situation last time we were at WDW with my husbands heart rate and BP being way high. We went to the medical office and received excellent care. They showed tremendous empathy and finally sent my husband to the ER. They were kind enough to let me ride in the ambulance and upon dismissal after several hours called a taxi to take us back to the resort, no charge.
