Disney World’s ‘Star Wars’ Land Hit With Overnight Update, Effective January 2026

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios received an unannounced addition this month as construction crews completed a guest amenity project that’s been underway since last summer. The new seating area officially opened in January 2026 without fanfare, expanding capacity as Walt Disney World Resort prepares for the land’s upcoming timeline transformation.

January Opening Follows Summer Construction

A dedicated guest seating zone at the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge entrance nearest Toy Story Land is now operational after months of development. BlogMickey recently confirmed the completion of the space, which Disney constructed throughout late 2025, without publicly announcing the project.

Construction began last summer alongside work on the Popcorn & Snacks kiosk, which debuted in Toy Story Land weeks ago. The coordinated timeline suggests that Walt Disney World Resort planned both projects together to address critical seating shortages that have plagued the area since the opening of Toy Story Land.

The seating installation integrates benches carved into rock formations, matching Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’s Black Spire Outpost aesthetic. Wooden tables and stools supplement the rock benches, significantly increasing total seating capacity. Lighting fixtures illuminate the space after sunset. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a guest area at Walt Disney World Resort without some new themed trash cans.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests have lodged complaints for years about inadequate seating near Woody’s Lunch Box Quick Service restaurant in Toy Story Land. Countless families purchasing meals had nowhere to sit, so they had to eat while standing or on walkways.

Opening Popcorn & Snacks—another food vendor selling Pepperoni Pizza spring rolls and other traditional snacks—without corresponding seating would have catastrophically worsened the existing shortage. The new area serves both Toy Story Land dining locations and provides rest space for visitors exploring Black Spire Outpost.

The January seating debut arrives as Walt Disney World Resort prepares to fundamentally restructure Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Disney announced earlier this month that the land will be split between two eras—half transitioning to the original Lucasfilm trilogy timeline, while the other half remains in the sequel trilogy period.

Planned modifications include transforming First Order Cargo into Black Spire Surplus, a military salvage operation selling Galactic Civil War artifacts from the original trilogy alongside existing merchandise. Oga’s Cantina will undergo aesthetic updates reflecting its repositioned timeline. Character interactions will expand dramatically as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa join Chewbacca and sequel-era figures meeting guests throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

This will be a day long remembered. Darth Vader arrives in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge® at Disneyland® Park beginning April 29. Read more about the exciting enhancements coming at Disney Parks Blog and StarWars.com.

Disneyland Resort has locked in April 29, 2026, as its launch date for the timeline shift. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t specified when Disney’s Hollywood Studios will implement matching changes, leaving Central Florida guests uncertain about the transformation schedule.
