EPCOT's Frozen Ever After attraction is getting a complete technological overhaul after nearly ten years of operation, plagued by malfunctioning audio-animatronics. Walt Disney World Resort will close the Norway World Showcase Pavilion attraction on Monday, January 26, 2026, marking the end of the original ride experience and the beginning of a weeks-long transformation that will finally bring cutting-edge character figures to Central Florida.
Projection Faces Replaced With Physical Sculptures

Frozen Ever After opened in 2016 using facial projection technology for its Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven audio-animatronics. The decade-old system has proven unreliable, regularly malfunctioning and leaving characters with frozen expressions or completely black faces that frighten riders.
While EPCOT guests endured problematic projection technology, similar Frozen (2013) attractions at Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Resort featured superior sculpted audio-animatronics that rarely malfunctioned. The quality disparity frustrated Walt Disney World Resort visitors who questioned why the Florida version received inferior technology.
Disney is finally addressing the gap. As Disneyland Paris Resort prepares to open advanced audio-animatronics in the World of Frozen at Disney Adventure World, EPCOT is receiving matching upgrades.

“In a full circle moment of innovation, the Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff Audio-Animatronics figures will soon receive new updates after ten years of delighting fans in Frozen Ever After,” the Disney Parks Blog revealed. “Taking inspiration from the advancements seen in figures at World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland, the Frozen Ever After figures will face the future of Audio-Animatronics (see what I did there?).”
Sunday Marks Final Day for Original Frozen Ever After
Frozen Ever After will operate its final day in its original form on Sunday, January 25, 2026. The attraction closes Monday, January 26, for a multi-week refurbishment, replacing projection-based characters with physically sculpted audio-animatronics, in line with the advanced technology deployed at other Disney parks worldwide.

Walt Disney World Resort confirmed a February 2026 reopening but hasn't committed to a specific date.
