Iger Contradicts Himself With Another Unnerving Announcement

Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger made waves when he returned from retirement as part of the ousting of now-former Disney CEO Bob Chapek — and is still continuing to make waves!

Iger’s decisions so far have had Wall Street investors sharing mixed feelings about Disney’s future, and have had Disney World Cast Members up in arms over low wages. Now, Iger has recently made several other stirring announcements — and one seemingly-overlooked line in a recent statement will have a big impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe that so many Disney fans love!

While taking part in the recent Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed at least one thing that we already knew (both from him and from Marvel leader Kevin Feige): Disney+ is going to be dialing back on how many new Marvel projects it releases, in an effort to avoid repeating the same ‘quality over quantity’ mistake from the past few years when many new, but sub-par, Marvel shows were released on the streaming platform.

Iger also mentioned a change that seems to be in direct opposition to this goal, however, saying that Disney is “going to turn back to the Avengers franchise with a whole new set of Avengers.”

Since Disney has often been facing a lot of criticism for redoing its stories (i.e. making live-action adaptations of old Disney movies) and faced accusations about a lack of creativity, redoing the Avengers movies with a new set of superheroes — who would most likely still feature some obvious parallels to the original Avengers team, just like the new team in the National Treasure spin-off featured echoes of the original characters seems like a contradictory choice.

Iger did not confirm which Marvel superheroes would get their moments in the spotlight, or whether or not any of the original Avengers would be making a comeback.

Time will tell whether or not Iger’s decision to reboot the Avengers films (i.e. to do the same thing that has been antagonizing Disney fans for years) is met with fanfare or backlash!
