Disney Guests Stuck 100 Feet up on Broken Ride, Baking in Summer California Sun

It’s not every day that theme park guests find themselves stuck on a ride, let alone hanging 100 feet up in the air. But that’s exactly what happened when the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure temporarily broke down earlier this month. Several Disneyland Resort guests found themselves trapped atop the roller coaster for a prolonged period, all while the scorching California sun beat down on them.

The incident occurred during a routine ride on the Incredicoaster, a steel roller coaster that’s become one of the highlights of Pixar Pier since its 2018 retheme. The coaster, known for its thrilling loops and sharp drops, left passengers in a less-than-ideal position when it suddenly came to a halt. For about 45 minutes, guests were left stranded on the roller coaster’s steep hill, in the hot summer sun. The situation was documented by one of the guests (@eltanke420), who filmed nearly the entire ordeal and shared it with the world on TikTok.

“Well, we’re stuck,” the TikToker said as the video began. The video captures the quiet atmosphere as the guests waited for cast members to arrive, all while taking in what one rider described as a “beautiful” view from nearly the top of one of the 100-foot hills.

As the minutes ticked by, Disney cast members arrived on the scene to provide some relief. “We’re just going to wait for our maintenance team and hopefully get you guys out of here,” one cast member reassured the stranded guests. They shared some fun facts about the Incredicoaster and kept the guests company until the maintenance team arrived.

“I don’t know the specifics on what exactly happened, but something broke, so it has to shut down,” one cast member explained when asked why the ride had stopped. Although it’s not uncommon for Disney Park rides to experience occasional technical issues, this particular breakdown required an evacuation.

When the maintenance cast members did finally arrive, they went to work. Guests were slowly and carefully helped out of the ride vehicles and onto a portable metal platform that the maintenance team brought. Cast members made their way from the back of the coaster train toward the front, guiding each guest down the emergency exit stairs. Once everyone exited safely, they walked back into Disney California Adventure Park.

By the end of the experience, the TikToker reported spending a total of 45 minutes stranded in the direct sunlight. Given the hot temperatures, it’s unclear if any compensation, such as a Lightning Lane pass, was offered to the guests, though such compensation is typically given in situations like this one.

The Incredicoaster eventually reopened and was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication.
