With just eight months to go before Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) hits theaters, fans are getting ready for another action-packed journey into the dinosaur-filled world. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla 2014, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), the new movie will star Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, a covert operative assigned to retrieve “genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs” on a remote island. As production moves forward, the movie is currently in reshoots in New York, and fans can expect a trailer soon.
Meanwhile, the Jurassic franchise is making waves on the small screen with the recent premiere of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 2. The new Netflix animated series brings back “The Nublar Six”—Darius Bowman, Kenji Kon, Ben Pincus, Yaz Fadoula, Sammy Gutierrez, and Brooklynn—as they reunite to “unravel a mystery” and confront a “global conspiracy” threatening both dinosaurs and themselves. The show picks up after Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which ran for five seasons from 2020 to 2022, with the first season of Chaos Theory set one year before the events of Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Chaos Theory continues the franchise’s exploration of dinosaurs coexisting with humans, a concept introduced in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and fully realized in Jurassic World Dominion. Season 1 of Chaos Theory featured characters like Soyona Santos, the shady dinosaur dealer from Dominion, who appeared in animated form for the first time. With Season 2 now underway, fans are left wondering if there’s any connection between the series and Jurassic World Rebirth, or if Dominion marks the end of Chaos Theory‘s story.
In a recent interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Chaos Theory showrunner Scott Kreamer shed some light on how Season 2 ties into the larger Jurassic World universe. When asked about collaborating with Jurassic World producers Colin Trevorrow and Frank Marshall to align the series with Rebirth, Kreamer explained:
“Yeah, I mean, when we started Chaos Theory, I don’t even know if they knew they were making Rebirth. I know there wasn’t a script for it yet. So, you know, we’re given a great deal of latitude, as long as we’re not breaking film canon, and again, Colin reads every script and Frank Marshall is also involved in just making sure that we’re not doing anything that we’re not supposed to be but, I mean, the only thing that we were basically, the only guard rails, is like, basically, don’t go past Dominion, you know, don’t go way past Dominion, because they didn’t know where they were going next. So, that was sort of our only guard rail as far as that goes.”
It remains unclear whether Chaos Theory will directly influence Jurassic World Rebirth, but with the series’ focus on connecting to Dominion, it could still eventually intersect with the upcoming movie. If Chaos Theory continues for more seasons, as its predecessor did, the timeline may inevitably catch up to Rebirth.
