Now that Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) is out in theaters, it’s fair to say that it really is the beginning of a “new Jurassic era”. There are no returning dinosaurs, no returning legacy characters, and the film has absolutely no interest in honoring the past. None whatsoever.
If you’ve spent the last decade watching the original Jurassic Park (1993) T-Rex battle rival super predators or Blue the velociraptor rushing to save Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) from other prehistoric threats, Rebirth doesn’t care.
And it’s hitting fans right where it hurts—by seemingly killing off the two dinosaur icons.
After setting the stage with Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis on the newly introduced island Île Saint‑Hubert, this sequel also brings a global dino apocalypse into the fold. That’s right — dinosaurs are dropping dead everywhere, despite the fact they were seen to be flourishing on a global scale in the last two films, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
But what about Rexy and Blue? The two dinosaurs who roared and soared through the last three movies are nowhere to be seen and don’t even get a mention in the new film.
It’s clear the filmmakers have little interest in honoring the past. Veteran characters are gone, legacy dinosaurs have been completely sidestepped, and the brilliant, franchise-defining world-building from Fallen Kingdom and Dominion is unceremoniously erased.

Will There Be a Jurassic World Rebirth 2?
While there’s every chance that Rexy and Blue are alive, Rebirth hammers home the fact that dinosaurs are dropping like flies — except for ones that have found sanctuary along the equator, where the climate resembles the one in which their ancestors thrived.
So, until a sequel states otherwise (one is yet to be get the green light), fans will assume the worst: that the two most unlikely heroes of the Jurassic World trilogy are extinct.
