Where Jurassic World Rebirth Went Wrong

Released in 2025, Jurassic World Rebirth became a major box office success, earning $869.1 million worldwide. However, while audiences turned out in large numbers, many fans criticized the film's story, particularly its decision to abandon the global dinosaur premise established in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Set five years after Dominion, the latest film reveals that dinosaurs are no longer thriving around the world. Instead, the surviving animals have retreated to isolated regions near the equator where environmental conditions remain suitable for their survival.

The film follows Scarlett Johansson's Zora Bennett as she leads an expedition to a previously unseen InGen facility on the island ÃŽle Saint-Hubert. Tasked with recovering dinosaur DNA for a pharmaceutical company, the team instead discovers dangerous genetic experiments and mutant creatures.

While the premise itself is relatively straightforward, audiences were left with a long list of unanswered questions.

The film introduces an entirely new InGen island without explaining why it had never been mentioned before. It features mysterious ancient ruins scattered throughout the jungle, and also reveals mutated dinosaurs such as the Distortus rex and the Mutadons, yet offers little information about how they were created or why the facility was abandoned in the first place.

Now, Jurassic World Evolution 3 appears ready to fill in some of those gaps.

Many Questions Will Be Answered

Frontier's newly announced Rebirth Expansion brings back ÃŽle Saint-Hubert before the events of the film, allowing players to explore the facility during its operational years.

According to the description on the official website, players will develop the island's top-secret research center before its eventual downfall. The expansion also promises additional information about the genetic experiments that took place there, and further context for the mutant dinosaurs from the movie, while also teasing opportunities to investigate the island's unusual architecture.

“Uncover the mysteries of Mayan architecture on the island with towering temples and decorations,” the description states. That detail alone addresses one of the most commonly discussed elements of the film. The ancient structures were visible throughout Rebirth but received no explanation on screen.

Jurassic Park has a long history of using expanded media to flesh out its stories. Animated projects, tie-in novels, comics, and games have frequently added context to events only briefly touched upon in the films. Now, the Rebirth Expansion is set to continue that tradition.

Whether it completely changes opinions on the movie remains to be seen. However, for fans who left the theater with lingering questions about ÃŽle Saint-Hubert and its strange experiments and ancient temple ruins, some answers are finally on the way.

Jurassic World Evolution 3: Rebirth Expansion will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S from June 16.
