Kylo Ren Returns in Newly Announced Sequel for ‘Star Wars’ Sequel Trilogy

Kylo Ren is officially back.

Lucasfilm has spent much of the post-Rise of Skywalker era avoiding the sequel trilogy timeline.

Disney+ shifted the franchise’s focus toward characters like Din Djarin, Grogu, and Ahsoka Tano, while Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Ben Solo were largely left untouched after 2019.

But that has not prevented fans from rooting for more.

The Last Jedi remains one of the most divisive entries in the entire franchise nearly a decade later, with debate around Luke Skywalker, Rey, and Kylo Ren still dominating parts of the fandom. Ben Solo’s death in The Rise of Skywalker only added to that frustration for many viewers.

Now, Lucasfilm is finally revisiting that period again through one of its biggest sequel trilogy characters.

Marvel Expands Kylo Ren’s Story After ‘The Last Jedi’

Marvel has announced a new comic miniseries titled Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren.

Set after The Last Jedi, the five-issue series follows Kylo Ren during his reign as Supreme Leader of the First Order before the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The comic acts as a follow-up to 2020’s Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, which explored Ben Solo’s fall to the dark side and his takeover of the Knights of Ren.

In his latest newsletter, Charles Soule (@CharlesSoule) announced his next #StarWars comic!

‘Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren' picks up after the events of ‘Legacy of Vader' and runs up until the opening of #TheRiseofSkywalker.

The five-issue miniseries begins in August.

Writer Charles Soule and artist Will Sliney are both returning.

The project was first teased at the end of Legacy of Vader, which closed with the line: “The Reign Ends. The Fall Begins. Kylo Ren… Will Return.”

Marvel says the story will focus heavily on growing tension inside the First Order after the death of Supreme Leader Snoke, with General Hux and Allegiant General Pryde turning against one another as Kylo Ren attempts to maintain control.

The publisher’s official description reads:

“Kylo Ren returns from devastation, wielding total fury! As Generals Hux and Pryde tear the First Order apart with treacherous ambition, Kylo cuts through their schemes with merciless clarity. His wrath forges unity through fear and unleashes a Supreme Leader neither general can escape…nor survive disappointing. A pivotal turning point for Kylo, Hux and Pryde and essential reading for every Star Wars fan.”

The first issue releases on August 12, 2026.

Soule later said Ben Solo’s story always felt larger than what audiences saw onscreen, adding that revisiting the character “just feels right.”

Sliney also revealed that he and Soule had discussed making a “Fall of Kylo Ren” project for years following the success of their earlier series.

Lucasfilm Slowly Returns to the Sequel Trilogy Era

The announcement arrives as interest in the sequel trilogy timeline begins growing again inside Lucasfilm.

Daisy Ridley is still attached to the studio’s upcoming Rey Skywalker movie, first announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2023. The film is expected to follow Rey as she rebuilds the Jedi Order after the collapse of the First Order.

Development has been unusually quiet.

Multiple writers have reportedly joined and exited the project since it was first announced, leading to ongoing questions about Lucasfilm’s long-term plans for the sequel era.

Speculation around Adam Driver’s future as Ben Solo has also continued to build online.

Reports about a rejected project titled The Hunt for Ben Solo sparked fresh discussion after Driver revealed that the project would have followed the character after his apparent demise in The Rise of Skywalker.

John Boyega recently added to speculation that Disney hopes to pursue more post-sequels storytelling.

The actor confirmed he has spoken with Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni about potentially returning as Finn in a future project.

Exactly how far Lucasfilm plans to expand the sequel trilogy timeline remains unclear. Still, The Fall of Kylo Ren marks one of the studio’s clearest signs yet that the era is not being left behind after all.
