Muppet*Vision 3D is no more. After more than 30 years of entertaining guests, the long-running 3D/4D theater show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios recently took its final bow, closing with the rest of Grand Avenue to make way for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land.
But if you think the Muppets are heading to Disney’s dusty vaults, think again.
Kermit and the gang are next in line to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in 2026, which will drop Aerosmith completely in favor of a full felt overhaul. But longtime fans of Jim Henson’s creations don’t have to wait until then to get their next fix of classic Muppets.
The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert is coming back for its fifth consecutive year in the U.K. this winter, and tickets are now on sale. Starting November 21, venues across the country—including cities such as Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Sheffield—will host screenings of the beloved 1992 holiday staple, accompanied in full by a live orchestra.
This means that Michael Caine’s Ebenezer Scrooge, Gonzo’s Charles Dickens, and Kermit’s Bob Cratchit, to name but a few, will take to the big screen once again, this time with a booming musical score echoing through concert halls instead of your own living room.
The Success of The Muppet Christmas Carol
Not only is the film often ranked as one of the best Christmas movies of all time for its sincerity, charm, and a surprisingly emotional center, it’s also widely considered among the best adaptations of Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella “A Christmas Carol”.
The screenings feature the long-missing “When Love Is Gone,” the heartfelt ballad cut from the original theatrical release and only in recent years restored on Disney+.
So yes, Muppet*Vision 3D is gone, and it hurts, but don’t mistake that for the end of vintage Muppets. Between the concert hall and the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster revamp, Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang aren’t going anywhere.
