Disney Confirms New Muppets Ride—Could Scenes From ‘Christmas Carol’ Appear?

After more than three decades, Muppet*Vision 3D has officially closed its doors at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The 3D film and effects show was the last Disney Parks project Jim Henson worked on before his death in 1990. Now, it’s gone forever.

The closure marks the end of an era. Since 1991, Muppet*Vision 3D gave guests one of the most faithful and chaotic versions of the Muppets outside the screen. But it’s not just the show that’s been removed, as Grand Avenue—formerly Muppets Courtyard—as a whole is getting cleared out for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land, complete with a door-coaster through the factory. And while fans might be excited to ride through Monstropolis, the transition means a bittersweet goodbye to the Muppets’ original home.

But in an announcement over the weekend, Kermit revealed via the official Walt Disney World Instagram account that the Muppets will return in 2026, taking over Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster. The Aerosmith-themed ride will keep operating through 2025 before getting a full Muppet makeover (no narrow release window for its opening has been revealed).

What that re-theme actually looks like is still a mystery. From early concept art, we know it will feature Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, but there could be possible nods to Muppets in film—including 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol.

While a full seasonal overlay during the 2026 holidays seems unlikely, especially considering next Christmas will the ride’s first at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, never say never — the Muppets may wish to celebrate in true festive style.

This isn’t the first time the Muppets have disappeared from the parks, and probably won’t be the last. But for now, it looks like they’re trading in 3D glasses for roller coaster harnesses—and we’ll take it. And fans of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster needn’t worry, either — the Aerosmith version is still available until 2026, and the ride itself isn’t going anywhere.
