Magic Kingdom Quietly Opens New Location, Surprises Guests

Disney World visitors received an early surprise at Magic Kingdom this week as one of the park's longest-running character experiences returned from refurbishment ahead of schedule.

Pete's Silly Sideshow officially reopened to guests on Friday, June 26, ending a closure that began in early January. Disney had previously announced that the Storybook Circus location would return the following day, June 27, making the unexpected opening a pleasant surprise for guests already visiting the park.

The Fantasyland meet-and-greet is home to four classic Disney characters—Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy—who appear exclusively in their circus-inspired costumes.

For the past six months, Disney relocated the quartet to temporary outdoor greeting areas within Storybook Circus so guests could continue meeting the characters while work was carried out on the attraction. Although Pete's Silly Sideshow isn't a ride, it has remained one of the busiest character locations at Magic Kingdom since opening with the Storybook Circus expansion.

The refurbishment focused on refreshing the attraction's aging circus tent, which had become weathered after years under Florida's sun and frequent rainstorms. Earlier this year, crews installed a brand-new tent roof before gradually removing construction walls, scaffolding, and scrim as the project neared completion. Decorative banners have also been restored to the entrance, giving the location its familiar appearance once again.

Guests can once again choose between two themed character experiences inside the attraction. One queue features Minnie Mouse performing as Minnie Magnifique alongside Daisy Duck as Madame Daisy Fortuna. The second introduces visitors to Goofy as The Great Goofini and Donald Duck as The Astounding Donaldo. Their colorful circus costumes remain unique to Pete's Silly Sideshow and continue to be a defining feature of the Storybook Circus area.

While Pete's Silly Sideshow has resumed normal operations, work in this corner of Fantasyland isn't completely finished. Big Top Souvenirs, located next door, remains closed, and Disney has not shared a reopening timeline for the retail location.

The return of Pete's Silly Sideshow also brings back one of Magic Kingdom's largest indoor character greeting venues. Guests no longer have to wait outdoors in Central Florida's summer heat, with the attraction once again offering its air-conditioned indoor queues. Character appearances are expected to take place daily from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., following the schedule Disney previously announced.

By reopening one day ahead of schedule, Disney has restored an important guest experience while helping spread demand across Fantasyland's character meet-and-greets after months of temporary outdoor operations.

The completed refurbishment represents another step in Magic Kingdom's ongoing maintenance efforts as Walt Disney World continues updating existing offerings throughout the resort. For guests planning a visit, one of Storybook Circus' signature experiences is once again welcoming visitors—and it returned even earlier than Disney originally promised.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
