Pete's Silly Sideshow entered 2026 as an operational Magic Kingdom Park attraction, but didn't make it past the first week. The Storybook Circus character meet-and-greet location closed January 4, with demolition work already underway and no confirmed date for when the Fantasyland building will reopen.
Roof Removal Marks Construction Escalation
Crews stripped Pete's Silly Sideshow's entire top tent layer on Wednesday, completely removing the structure's roof, BlogMickey reported. The demolished section had displayed the most severe damage before closure, with visible tears compromising the fabric covering.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn't clarified whether the tent roof will be repaired or entirely replaced. The roof removal is the first major construction phase of a project with no announced completion timeline. Disney has remained silent on whether Pete's Silly Sideshow's interior will undergo changes beyond repairs to the damaged exterior.
Construction barriers and scrim have enclosed the circus-themed building since January 4. The final day for indoor character encounters was January 3, when Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Donald Duck met their last guests inside the tent structure before indefinite displacement.
Deteriorating Fabric Prompted Shutdown
Visible deterioration is likely to have forced Pete's Silly Sideshow to close. The tent structure exhibited mounting fabric damage in recent months, with multiple tears appearing in the outer covering stretched over internal scaffolding. The worsening condition prompted Walt Disney World Resort to announce refurbishment plans in December, providing Disney Park guests with advance notice of the January closure.

Pete's Silly Sideshow currently has no scheduled reopening at Magic Kingdom Park. Big Top Souvenirs, the adjacent tent-shaped gift shop, continues normal operations despite the closure of the character location.
Four Characters Relocated Outside
The Astounding Donaldo, the Great Goofini, Minnie Magnifique, and Daisy Fortuna—circus-themed versions of Donald Duck, Goofy, Minnie Mouse, and Daisy Duck—have been evicted from their indoor home. The quartet now meets guests at various outdoor Storybook Circus locations, with schedules available through the My Disney Experience app.

The lack of a reopening timeline means Pete's Silly Sideshow could remain closed for weeks, months, or even longer. Magic Kingdom Park visitors arriving in early 2026, expecting indoor character encounters in Storybook Circus, will find only outdoor alternatives exposed to Florida weather and lacking the themed circus atmosphere the tent building provided.
