For those visiting Magic Kingdom today, there’s a major change to keep in mind—the park will be closing nearly seven hours earlier than usual.
As the crown jewel of Walt Disney World Resort and the most visited theme park in the world, Magic Kingdom typically operates later than its counterparts to accommodate its massive crowds. With iconic attractions like Space Mountain, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and the recently reimagined Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the park remains a must-visit for Disney fans worldwide.
However, today (January 30), Magic Kingdom will close its gates at 4:30 p.m., long before the usual 10 or 11 p.m. shutdown. As a result, there will be no performance of the beloved nighttime spectacular, Happily Ever After.
Why Is Magic Kingdom Closing Early?
While an early closure may frustrate some guests, the reason behind it is a significant one. Tonight marks the Cast Service Celebration, an exclusive event honoring Disney cast members who have reached milestone anniversaries in their careers.
The annual tradition recognizes employees with tenures ranging from 10 to 50 years, offering them a night of celebration complete with a red carpet entrance on Main Street, U.S.A., exclusive character meet-and-greets, specialty dining, and significantly reduced wait times for attractions. The evening will culminate in a special fireworks display—one reserved solely for the honorees.
Magic Kingdom underwent a similar closure last January when over 8,300 cast members were celebrated for their contributions. Disney’s workforce plays a crucial role in making the parks magical, and this event is a way for the company to give back to those who dedicate their careers to bringing joy to millions.
For guests still hoping to make the most of their Disney World visit, the other theme parks will remain open as scheduled. Blizzard Beach will close at 5 p.m., while EPCOT and Hollywood Studios will both operate until 9 p.m. Animal Kingdom will close at 6 p.m., and Disney Springs will welcome visitors until 11 p.m.
Magic Kingdom will return to its regular operating hours tomorrow (January 31), allowing guests to once again enjoy its full lineup of attractions well into the evening. However, one ride that won’t be available is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which remains closed for an extensive refurbishment that has seen its track removed entirely.
