We now also know that Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds, The White Queen) will play the formidable and beloved Professor McGonagall, a casting decision that will surely delight longtime fans of the books and films.
In addition to McTeer, Paapa Essiedu and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) will play Severus Snape and Rubeus Hagrid, respectively. All three actors had previously been linked to the roles.
Essiedu, known for his acclaimed performances in I May Destroy You and Gangs of London, has been widely praised for his acting versatility. Meanwhile, Frost’s portrayal of the lovable Hagrid is sure to bring a new sense of warmth and charm to the iconic character.
In addition to these powerhouse names, the casting of Luke Thallon (Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt, Rupert Goold’s Patriots) as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show, Harry & Paul) as Argus Filch brings an intriguing dynamic to the series.
Quirrell, who plays a key role in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, will be a compelling character in Thallon’s hands, while Whitehouse’s comedic timing is perfect for the role of the bumbling caretaker, Filch.
