Disney Confirms Major Splash Mountain Retheme Update

Walt Disney Imagineers are hard at work transforming the iconic Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

As of this article’s publication, little progress seems to be done to the former Chick-a-pin Hill than the dry track beds, and the addition of blue-tarped scaffolding and barrier walls. But Disney Parks has confirmed when the most noticeable changes will start to manifest themselves at Walt Disney World.

According to Theme Park Insider Scott Gustin, “Disney says the tiara-topped “Tiana’s Foods” water tower at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will be installed later this summer.”

Along with the expected eventual removal of the hollow log that currently tops the log flume ride’s iconic drop, and briar patch, the addition of the water tower appears to be the most intense change to the Frontierland attraction’s exterior. Its addition will mark a significant milestone in the Imagineers’ hard work to get the Princess and the Frog-themed adventure ready for its 2024 opening.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to take place after the events of her Walt Disney Animation Studios feature film, at a point where she is an established name in the culinary world with her own restaurant and more. Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, the jazz-loving alligator Louis, and more of her friends will guide Guests down the bayou for a special Mardi Gras celebration.

Disney explains,

“Walt Disney Imagineering is creating an original, next chapter story for Tiana. Within the attraction queue, guests will discover that she continues to grow her business with Tiana’s Foods – an employee-owned cooperative. Combining her talents with those of the local community, Tiana has transformed an aging salt mine and built a beloved brand.”

 Over at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, Tiana’s Palace will take up residence in New Orleans Square next to her mother Eudora’s Boutique. It should be noted, though, that Disneyland’s Splash Mountain is still open at the time of this article’s publication and it is unclear when Walt Disney Imagineering will turn its attention to the original variant’s transformation.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open at Walt Disney World Resort in late 2024.
