For many, visiting Walt Disney World Resort is a dream come true—a place to laugh, explore, and forget about the outside world. But sometimes, reality follows guests right through the gates, resulting in situations that are anything but magical.
While Disney works around the clock to protect guests and maintain a safe environment, it’s not always character meet-and-greets and churros. With advanced security systems in place—metal detectors, bag checks, uniformed security, and even drug-sniffing dogs—Disney takes no chances when it comes to keeping its parks safe.

That diligence paid off in late March when a man attempting to enter Magic Kingdom Park set off security alarms in more ways than one.
According to an official report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Dustin Lee Wallace was arrested on March 29 after trying to bring cocaine into the theme park. Wallace had approached the security checkpoint, where he was scanned with a handheld metal detector.
He was then asked to empty his pockets into a bin—a routine process that took an unexpected turn.

Security officers noticed Wallace appeared visibly nervous, and one item in particular stood out: his wallet. Described as “bulky” by the security team, the wallet raised enough suspicion for staff to request that he open it. Inside was a white powdery substance that led to immediate law enforcement involvement.
A deputy onsite from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly. The officer conducted a field test on the substance, which confirmed it was cocaine. Wallace was read his Miranda Rights and agreed to speak with the officer, reportedly admitting that he had tried to smuggle the drugs into the park.
He explained he’d been using cocaine for about a month as a way to handle stress related to his job.
He was taken into custody and released later on a $2,500 bond.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t an isolated event. Just months earlier, another guest was caught attempting to bring cocaine into the Magic Kingdom. In that case, the drugs had been left over from a music festival. That guest, like Wallace, was arrested and banned from Walt Disney World property.
These cases serve as a firm reminder that while Disney may be a place of fantasy, it is very much rooted in real-world rules and consequences.
