Marvel Unveils Brand-New Spider-Man Design for Upcoming Crossover Event

In the ever-expanding world of Spider-Man, Marvel is continuing with the adventures of a very different version of the iconic wall-crawler.

For decades, Spidey fans have watched Peter Parker (and Miles Morales) swing through the streets of New York, fighting villains and saving the day. In more recent years, Tom Holland’s portrayal in the MCU has become a defining part of the character’s legacy.

However, fans were recently shocked to learn that Holland’s Peter Parker would not be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), as revealed during a major casting announcement. The reason for his absence? According to a report, Spider-Man 4 will take place simultaneously with Doomsday, making it impossible for both stories to coincide.

But Marvel isn’t leaving Spidey fans hanging (see what we did there?). Instead, they’re reintroducing a completely different version of Spider-Man—Takuya Yamashiro.

This Spider-Man originally hails from the Japanese Spider-Man television series. Now, his adventures continue in the “Spider-Verse Vs. Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” comic books. Takuya is a far cry from the Peter and Miles we know and love, though. However, he's a new hero in his own right, with a unique background.

Revealed by CBR on March 28, the new design for Takuya’s Spider-Man is the brainchild of renowned artist Luciano Vecchio, who has drawn inspiration from Japan’s famous Tokusatsu genre, including the iconic Super Sentai series.

“In the story, a new costume for Takuya is introduced, and it helps setting him visually apart from Peter,” Vecchio told CBR.

“I rewatched episodes and clips of the Japanese Spider-Man show to tap into that universe’s sensitivity and dramatic body language, and also referred to other early ‘80s shows in the Tokusatsu genre for aesthetic cues like the scarf and black lenses,” he continued. “I bounced ideas and references with writer Mat Groom before landing on this visual that can be shortened to Spider-Man meets Super Sentai.”

Set to appear in “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #3 this July, Takuya will join a battle between the Spiders and Symbiotes—a war that could decide the fate of both the Spider-Verse and the Venomverse.

Takuya Yamashiro’s introduction proves that Spider-Man’s story is far from over. While Tom Holland’s Peter Parker may not be swinging into Avengers: Doomsday, Takuya shows that the Spider-Verse is far-reaching and filled with infinite possibilities.

“Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #1 (of 5), written by Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom with art and cover by Lucian Vecchio, goes on sale May 14, and “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #3 (of 5), with art by Jim Towe, goes on sale July 23.
