For nearly two decades, guests at Walt Disney World Resort enjoyed the convenience of Disney’s Magical Express, a complimentary airport shuttle service connecting Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Disney Resort hotels. It removed the need for rental cars or rideshares, offering a seamless start to the Disney vacation experience.
However, in 2022, Disney officially retired Magical Express, prompting travelers to explore new transportation options. Fortunately, alternatives like Mears Connect and the Brightline high-speed rail have stepped in to fill the gap, providing efficient, flexible, and comfortable ways to reach the magic.
Brightline and Mears Connect: A Seamless Travel Partnership
Brightline is a modern high-speed rail service in Florida that connects Miami to Orlando, offering a fast, comfortable way to reach Central Florida for travelers coming from South Florida and beyond.
To make the trip even smoother, Brightline has partnered with Mears Connect. This private shuttle service provides direct transfers from Orlando International Airport (MCO), Terminal C, next to Brightline’s Orlando station, straight to Disney Resort hotels.
After arriving on Brightline, it’s just a short 5-minute walk within Terminal C to reach the Mears Connect shuttle area, with clear signage guiding you the entire way.
Travelers arriving to Orlando can either pre-book Mears Connect transfer online before their trip or purchase tickets upon arrival at the Mears Connect desk inside the Brightline station.
This partnership helps restore some of the convenience that guests once enjoyed with Disney’s Magical Express.
Flying Into Miami Instead of Orlando? Here’s What to Know
While Orlando International Airport (MCO) remains the closest airport to Walt Disney World, Brightline’s expansion makes it possible to fly into Miami and take a comfortable train ride to Central Florida.
As one of the busiest airports in the United States, Miami International Airport (MIA) offers a wider variety of flight times and airline options than Orlando.
Depending on your departure city, flying into Miami can also be more affordable. Plus, with Brightline’s high-speed rail, travelers can enjoy a direct and comfortable ride to Orlando in just over three hours.
You can also consider Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) as another option, with direct Brightline connections to Orlando.
Perfect Post-Cruise Transportation
Ending a cruise in South Florida? Why not extend your vacation with a visit to Walt Disney World?
Brightline offers a smooth transition from cruise ports near Miami or Fort Lauderdale to Orlando. From there, Mears Connect can complete your journey to the Disney Resort of your choice. Just make sure to reserve your shuttle in advance for a stress-free experience.
Brightline’s Route and the Canceled Disney Springs Station
When Brightline announced its expansion into Orlando, initial plans were to build a station near Disney Springs. This would have placed guests within walking distance of resorts and dining.
However, in 2022, the Disney Springs stop was officially canceled due to logistical challenges, construction costs, and traffic concerns in the already-busy Lake Buena Vista area.
Though that direct connection never came to life, Brightline’s current route to MCO still provides convenient access, especially with the help of Mears Connect.
For example, guests can book a shuttle to Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, within walking distance of Disney Springs.
Other Ways to Reach Walt Disney World
If a shuttle isn’t your preferred method, several transportation options are still available:
-
Rideshare Services (Uber & Lyft): Quick, flexible, and available on demand. Keep in mind that pricing varies based on time of day and demand.
-
Rental Cars: Disney doesn’t charge overnight parking fees at resort hotels. If staying on property, guests who drive can also enjoy free parking at all four theme parks.
-
Luxury Private Rides (Powered by Mears): For travelers seeking comfort and elegance, Mears offers premium sedans, SUVs, and vans with door-to-door service. Rates start at $63 per vehicle, making it a stylish upgrade for families or small groups.
Plan Ahead for a Magical Arrival
Although Disney’s Magical Express is no longer available, today’s travelers have more options than ever to reach Walt Disney World Resort efficiently.
Whether you fly into Orlando, Miami, or Fort Lauderdale, the combination of Brightline rail service and Mears Connect shuttles can ensure a smooth, relaxing journey.
With just a bit of planning, your magical Disney vacation can begin the moment you land in Florida—no matter how you get there, the enchantment awaits.
