All too often, audiences are told terrifying stories about ghosts who are ready to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who gets in their way. From movies like Poltergeist (1982), Paranormal Activity (2007), The Amityville Horror (1979), The Haunting (1999), and more, audiences have enjoyed the nightmarish screams that come from the screen. But sometimes ghosts can actually be funny, and that is always something enjoyable to see.

In 1988, iconic director Warner Bros. decided to venture into the world of the recently deceased and tell the story of a ghost who just loved to wreak a little havoc. They enlisted the help of iconic director Tim Burton and incredible actors Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis, and POOF! A legend was born.

Beetlejuice tells the story of Adam and Barbara, a young couple who perish in a car accident. They return to their home and learn they are ghosts, who must now deal with an eclectic family from New York City moving into their beloved home. They enlist the help of a borderline psychotic ghost named Beetlejuice, and all hell breaks loose.

It’s been just over 25 years since audiences enjoyed the pandemonium caused by the hilarious ghost, and now, Beetlejuice is back and ready for more!

Warner Bros. is gearing up for the release of the sequel film — Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — and we FINALLY have a first look at Michael Keaton as the chaos-causing ghost!

Now, Michael Keaton is not the only star from the original film returning for the sequel. Winona Ryder is back as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara has returned as Delia Deetz, Lydia’s stepmother. Not only that — in a perfect casting choice — Wednesday star Jenna Ortega will be playing Lydia’s daughter, Astrid.

Jeffrey Jones will not be returning to the sequel as Lydia’s father, Charles, and now we may know how his character is being dealt with. As you can see in the above image, Delia, Lydia, and Astrid appear to be at a funeral – note the hearse behind them. It is possible that the new movie will reveal that Charles has died.

Justin Theroux has also joined the cast and can be seen in the above image, although we don’t know what his role in the film will be.

On another fun note, in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice has found himself a wife! Monica Bellucci will play Beetlejuice’s wife, whose name we do not yet know. That could be why Beetlejuice is seen wearing a ring on his index finger in the first look picture shared by Warner Bros.

Willem Dafoe has also been cast to star in the film, but his role has not yet been revealed.

And here’s another fun bit of news. You may remember the iconic “Day-O” scene in the first film. Charles and Delia are hosting a dinner party, when they find themselves unable to control their own bodies. They do a hilarious dance to the classic Harry Belafonte song, “Day-O”. It is one of the most memorable scenes in the film.

Warner Bros. has shared that “Day-O” will make a return in the sequel film! Day, me say day, me say day, me say day, me say day, me say day!!

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will premiere in theaters nationwide on September 6. Tim Burton has returned to direct the sequel film. Alfred Gough, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Michael McDowell write the highly anticipated sequel.
