When Tim Burton’s Batman hit theaters in 1989, it established Michael Keaton as one of the most iconic versions of the Dark Knight. But while the franchise continued with Batman Returns (1992), the world Burton created never fully extended beyond those films — at least not on the big screen.
Thanks to the DC Comics’ “Batman ’89” comic book series and last year’s novel, “Batman: Resurrection,” from John Jackson Miller, that universe has seen a resurgence. And now, things are about to get even more exciting.
In the newly announced “Batman: Revolution”, which sees John Jackson Miller return as author, a different take on The Riddler will emerge, one that may surprise fans. This version, named Norman Pinkus, isn’t the same character portrayed by Jim Carrey in 1995’s Batman Forever, which, at the time, was intended as a sequel to the two Burton films.
Instead, Pinkus is part of the Burtonverse—a world that, until now, had only touched on the more well-known villains like Joker and Penguin. This new Riddler promises to bring a fresh perspective while still fitting in with the darker, grittier, and quasi-gothic world Burton set up in his films.

“Batman: Revolution” continues on from “Batman: Resurrection,” in which Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight grapples with the aftermath of The Joker’s death as seen in the 1989 film. But this time, he’ll face a villain who’ll test his intelligence and then some.
Set a few weeks after “Resurrection “(which itself is set just weeks after the film), this new chapter promises to stay true to the Burtonverse, ensuring that fans will be seeing a seamless continuation from the 1989 film and its 1992 sequel.
With “Batman: Revolution” set to release on October 28, 2025, Burtonverse fans are eager to see more of Michael Keaton’s iconic hero and the characters that shape this distinct world.
