Effective Immediately, Guests Must Pay $100+ for Dinner With Mickey Mouse

A character dining location at one Disney resort has quietly closed, removing one of the easiest ways for guests to meet Mickey Mouse during a meal.

Character dining remains one of Disney’s most recognizable restaurant formats. Instead of waiting in traditional meet-and-greet lines, characters circulate through dining rooms, stopping at tables for photos and brief interactions with guests.

The concept appears across multiple Disney resorts worldwide. Restaurants at parks in Florida, California, Paris, and beyond combine buffet or table-service meals with visits from characters such as Mickey Mouse and Disney Princesses, with reservations for the most popular locations often filling weeks in advance.

Disney has continued expanding these experiences in recent years with new locations like The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge at Disney Adventure World and Donald’s Tales of Adventure Dinner Buffet at Storytellers Cafe. Despite that growth, one long-running character dining restaurant has now closed.

Plaza Gardens Restaurant Closes at Disneyland Paris

At Disneyland Paris, Plaza Gardens Restaurant has officially closed to all guests.

Disney announced the closure earlier this year, stating that the restaurant would undergo refurbishment. The company has not confirmed when the location will reopen.

Reports circulating among fans suggest the refurbishment could be related to a “deteriorating building structure,” although Disney has not publicly confirmed that explanation.

Before its closure, Plaza Gardens Restaurant was the only character dining experience inside Disneyland Park where guests could meet Mickey Mouse and friends.

During the breakfast service, characters regularly appearing included Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Other characters often included Tigger, Goofy, Pinocchio, and Pluto. The Victorian-style pavilion on Main Street, U.S.A. was one of the park’s most recognizable dining locations.

With the restaurant now closed, that particular character dining experience is no longer available at Disneyland Park.

Mickey Appearances Shift to Other Restaurants

The Royal Banquet at Disneyland Hotel is now the primary location where guests can meet Mickey Mouse during a character meal at Disneyland Paris.

At this restaurant, Mickey, Minnie, and other characters appear in royal-themed outfits. The experience costs €100 ($115) per adult and €50 ($58) per child.

Some guests have criticized the experience for the price and the layout of the Royal Banquet dining room, saying diners are packed together “like sardines.”

Disney has also adjusted the character lineup at another restaurant.

Mickey Mouse has been added to Auberge de Cendrillon, a fairy-tale themed restaurant traditionally focused on Disney Princesses such as Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella.

Our friends at @Cave0fWonders shared photos of Mickey Mouse in his new outfit at Auberge de Cendrillon in Disneyland Paris. As Plaza Gardens Restaurant will be closing tonight for a year-long refurbishment, Mickey will now be making appearances with the Disney Princesses here. 💫

The character appears in a new costume featuring a feathered hat and a waistcoat in blue, purple, and yellow.

Auberge de Cendrillon is also priced higher than Plaza Gardens previously was. Lunch or dinner there costs €100 ($115) per adult and €50 ($58) per child.

By comparison, breakfast at Plaza Gardens cost €50 ($58) per adult and €40 ($46) per child as of 2025.

Dining prices at Disneyland Paris are generally higher than similar character dining experiences in the United States.

At Walt Disney World, dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table costs $89 per adult and $54 per child. Dining with Winnie the Pooh and friends at Crystal Palace costs $64 per adult and $44 per child.

At Disneyland Resort in California, Donald’s Tales of Adventure Dinner at Storytellers Cafe costs $69 per adult and $39 per child.

Inside Disneyland Park, breakfast with Minnie and friends at Plaza Inn costs $55 per adult and $33 per child.

For now, Disneyland Paris guests hoping to meet Mickey Mouse during a meal will need to visit other restaurants while Plaza Gardens remains closed.

Do you think Disney character dining has become too expensive?
