After 34 years of entertaining guests, Muppet*Vision 3D said its final goodbye to Walt Disney World Resort guests on June 7, 2025. But the closure of this beloved show is just part of a much larger transformation underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Hours after the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney has now officially blocked off the entire Muppets Courtyard.
The news that Muppet*Vision 3D would be closing came as part of the announcement of a major transformation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. At D23 Expo 2024, Disney revealed that the area would be transformed into a new Monsters, Inc. (2001) themed land. This new area will feature a Monsters, Inc.-themed door roller coaster and another family-friendly attraction.
Concept art released early on showed potential locations for this new Pixar-themed area, with speculation swirling about whether it would replace Muppets Courtyard or Animation Courtyard. Many Disney Parks fans, loyal to Jim Henson’s final work, pleaded with Imagineers to preserve the Muppets in the park, but it wasn’t meant to be.
The official word came last fall when Disney confirmed the Monsters, Inc. land would indeed take over Muppets Courtyard and much of Grand Avenue. With that, Muppet*Vision 3D, along with other attractions like PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, were scheduled for permanent closure.
There is a silver lining for fans of Jim Henson’s creations. Last fall, Walt Disney Imagineers announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be rethemed around The Muppets Mayhem, a musical series available on Disney+. This means the Muppets will still have a presence at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, just in a new form.
The final day of Muppet*Vision 3D saw thousands of guests flocking to the attraction for one last time. Fans waited all day in a line that stretched all the way to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, with many eager to secure a coveted wristband for the show’s last public performance.
In a typical move for Disney Park construction projects, the closure was followed by a swift transformation. Overnight, Disney cast members moved in to block off Muppets Courtyard entirely from guests. A photo shared by Redditor u/Ok_World_8819 showed a lone Disney cast member standing guard in front of rolling planters that concealed the area:

This drastic change also made its way to the My Disney Experience app. Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D were removed entirely from the app, and the official map of Disney’s Hollywood Studios was updated to show greenery and trees next to Grand Avenue.
Walt Disney World Resort has provided a bit of comfort for Muppet*Vision 3D fans. The company has promised to preserve the show and explore ways to make it available to fans at a later date.
The Monsters, Inc. land is set to begin construction this summer, though no official opening date has been provided yet. In the meantime, Rock’ n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will continue operating until the end of 2025, reopening sometime in 2026.
