Disney’s Muppets Revived in the Theater, Show Opens November 11

After years away from the stage, The Muppets are back and bigger than ever. The beloved characters created by Jim Henson are returning to live theater this fall with an all-new Broadway production, officially opening on November 11 at New York’s Broadhurst Theatre.

Months after the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D at Walt Disney World Resort, The Muppets are making a theatrical comeback in “Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets.” The show pairs world-renowned illusionist Rob Lake with appearances from Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, and other fan-favorite characters. Previews began in late October, with the show now set for its official debut on November 11.

Walt Disney World Resort’s decision to close Muppet*Vision 3D to make way for a Monsters, Inc. (2001)-themed expansion at Disney’s Hollywood Studios left many fans feeling nostalgic for Jim Henson’s characters. But The Muppets’ latest venture proves their story is far from over. They’ve conquered television, movies, music, and merchandising — and now, they’re officially returning to the theater with Disney’s approval.

Lake called the partnership “a perfect marriage” between two entertainment worlds built on creativity and wonder.

“The Muppets and I both live in that space between imagination and storytelling,” Lake said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “When they appear onstage, everyone becomes a child again — that’s real magic.”

A Long-Awaited Dream Fulfilled

The production, helmed by producer Joe Quenqua, brings a 50-year dream to life.

“The idea of bringing The Muppets to Broadway has been around for 50 years,” Quenqua told EW. “That we are the ones who finally have the honor of making that dream come true is truly humbling.”

“Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests the Muppets” began preview performances on October 28. Each 90-minute show features spectacular illusions, guest appearances from The Muppets, and plenty of theatrical flair, without an intermission. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through January 18. Get your tickets here.

The Muppets’ Broadway revival isn’t their only major comeback. At Walt Disney World Resort, fans can look forward to a reimagined Rock’ n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, inspired by The Muppets Mayhem. The new attraction is scheduled to open in summer 2026.

Disney has also promised that the original Muppet*Vision 3D film will be preserved for future audiences, though the company hasn’t shared how or when it will return.
