Epic Universe is finally open to the public, and Universal Orlando fans are pouring into the brand-new theme park to experience its cutting-edge rides and beautifully themed lands. With areas dedicated to Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, the Dark Universe, and more, it’s everything fans hoped for—and then some.
But amidst all the excitement, there’s one oddly specific change that’s catching guests off guard, and it has nothing to do with ride breakdowns or long lines. It’s… pizza. Or more accurately, what guests can and can’t do with it.
Pizza Moon’s Strict “No Takeout” Policy
Located in the center of Celestial Park, Pizza Moon was supposed to be a go-to food stop for families and casual diners. But according to reports from UPNT, there’s a strict rule in place that’s confusing guests: no pizza is allowed to leave the restaurant. Not a slice. Not a box. Not even if you just sat down, took two bites, and realized your about to miss the next showtime.
There are no boxes available, and team members are reportedly enforcing the rule across the board. Some guests have even tried stashing uneaten pizza in their bags to avoid wasting food, but staff are quick to intervene. Even nearby eateries that do offer takeout won’t let you bring your Pizza Moon leftovers in.
Guests Left Frustrated—and Wasteful
At a park that prides itself on guest experience, this policy is coming off as unnecessarily rigid. The frustration goes beyond inconvenience. Guests spending $15 to $20 on a meal are understandably upset when they’re told they can’t save what they don’t eat. For families juggling kids, showtimes, and ride schedules, being forced to stay in one place just to finish lunch feels out of step with what modern theme park dining should be.
Making things worse? Pizza Moon is reportedly not offering mobile order, and several fan-favorite menu items have been pulled from the lineup. It’s a clunky situation all around.
Bigger Challenges Are Bubbling Up
Unfortunately, this pizza issue is just one example of some early growing pains at Epic Universe. The highly anticipated Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry ride recently scrapped its Virtual Queue, and lines have skyrocketed—sometimes with guests waiting hours, only to be turned away due to technical difficulties. Add in confusing food policies and limited menu offerings, and some fans are wondering if Universal was fully prepared for the crowds.
Still, Epic Universe remains an ambitious and beautiful addition to the Universal Orlando lineup. But if the pizza fiasco is any indication, there’s still some work to do behind the scenes to keep the experience smooth and guest-friendly.
